I like to run a blog but does the domain extension mattters? I like to register a .net domain to run a blog. I know some popular blogs like problogger.net that does not have .com extension, but I see more blogs with .com extension. Will the domain being not .com matter the traffic or future development or sales of the blog?
It is just like any other website. There is no SEO benefit to .com, but it is the easiest to promote, since it is so common. .com domains also tend to be worth more when you are selling them.
There are three top level domains: .com, .org, and .net Other top level domains are .edu, .gov, and .mil (military) Emerging domain is .travel.
there is nothing wrong with a .net extension, as long as you optimise it for seo correctly and get lots of related backlinks it can easily rank higher then a .com extension.
The top level extensions like .com and .net started off with a purpose, but today they are one in the same. If you can't find the domain you really want in .com, but find that .net is available, do it. A good domain name with a .net extension is leaps and bounds more beneficial than a mediocre .com. I remember .net's almost as easily, if not as easily as I do .com's.
