I have a website which focuses heavily on images, that are uploaded by users. Theses images now rank very, very well in Google Images but nowhere even near the top in the "normal" Google SERPs. The keywords the images rank for are brand names like "Nokia N95" or "Motorola" (actually it's not mobiles, but you get the idea ). Do you think that Google might see my website as too much image-biased and drops me from the normal SERPs? I have also a lot unique text content, like comments written by users... Any idea? Kind regards, Hans
I've never heard of any website that had problems in the normal Google serps because they were ranking good in Google Images.
For some keywords and phrases it's a lot easier to rank high in the image search than in the regular search.
I've never heard of this happening and highly doubt it would. Why would Google want to punish someone in the SERPs for having good "alt" attributes and nameing there images appropriately? Google's goal is to have relevant, quality results for there searchers; any website that uses appropriate and descriptive html for there images would be rewarded, if anything, not penalized. This isn't, however, to say that images are a good replacement for quality content. Content, is always, and will always continue to be a much more important ingredient for high positions in any of the top search engines. Images (with descriptive alt attributes) should be used in conjunction with quality content for the best results.
There is no connection between Google Images and SERPS. It is obvious that the competition is much lower on G images comparing with the actual SE.
The only problem I've experienced with my site is that one day it's on the first page on Google images, the next it's nowhere so from experience I would say the image SERPs change more often than the normal ones. However, that might only be for my niche, I don't know.
Actually this is weird cause its happened to me. I started to do really well on google images and eventually dissaperaed completely from the regular search results. I have another site that did good in google images and luckily hasn't been hurt in the regular search.
