About how many directory submissions did you do for each site? What proportion of your submissions were high ranking or paid directories?

I don't know the answer but I don't submit my sites into directories anymore.

    Directories do help with Serps.

How do I know? Many of my sites have PR and a good few first page listings, my backlinks are from directories.

    Thanks Brian

No paid directories, i submit mostly to new born dirs. they approve fast and helps in longer term.

I have done 2000 submissions so far for each of my sites and so far in this three months 2 of my sites got PR3 and other 4 sites are PR2.

Dir. submissions should be one of the strategies which you implement for link building, it should not be the only strategy.

I dont suggest submitting to 2000 directories personally. If you do, i hope you are changing the tile (anchor texts).

However, I do believe directories have a very high value. If you submit to 4 or 5 top directories you can be sure you will receive high rankings for your search terms,

so long as the directories provide you with a relevant cetegory, that they are trusted and well liked by google, you will be ok with it - it's a link back at the end of the day!

just don't go crazy and submit to a million in a week or anything like that!

I do directory submissions for many new sites and I can always see them getting ranked within 3-4 weeks for their keywords (with low competition). I don't understand why people don't try it once before they start saying 'it has no value'.

Whoever has said directory submissions are not good in thread.. can you take a website, do some submissions and see if you can observe your rank change? It's not all that difficult. Take any of your site and put 3 hours of work to submit to 100 directories.

I think it works, but it takes time after submission for the spiders to see the links and boost you appropriately.

Directory submission is an easy way to get some quick and dirty links to your main page. If you have a decent keyword domain, you can probably start to rank with dir submissions. However, dir submission is low value linking. It can help diversify your link portfolio, but that's about it. You probably can't get much beyond PR1 or 2 with just dir submission.
