    Hello All,

I want to know if directory submission brings any good traffic and clients to your website/service?

I mean who would want to visit that place unless you want to add your website link. It has no information or content but just a high pr website which has links to other websites and if directory is having thousands of website links in it then how will your link even show up.

So in the end its like the directory owners are the one who are earning money out of it.

Please tell me your thought/experience if it really works or not or correct me, thanks.

Not all web directories are equal, some might give you some traffic, but most will not, it varies on how that one particular web directories had been promoted.

Who would want to? I don't know what you mean, what kinda of web directory have you been visiting and sounds like you have had a bad experience or something. And you say "It has no information", You mean the directory consist of no wording or empty, because the directories I know have contents in it and that's information. "How will your link show up". They are usually place in a category which best fit and if a user wishes to look up for some site it will go to those categories and since most web directories have a search function they can input some keywords similar to a search engine you know.

Most likely web directories don't make any money from it, if they do, then good for them because time and money were invested into it.

I don't know what your motives are for creating this topic, but you should try to make your own and see where you end up, "gain experience" and see what running a web directory is all about.

I been saying this time and time again that web directories are no different than most sites, except that it's sole purpose is to categorize links in order. If your intentions are to bash web directories then it would be nice if you do the same with other types of sites like a messages board, social bookmarking web sites, blogs, gaming sites, personal sites etc,.. They too can be useful or worthless, so what you post is only geared towards a certain medium and you just entered the lions den, be prepared to be eaten up.

Btw, there are several post such as the one you created that most likely people have answered them, try searching for it, keyword "directory bashing".

General web directories rarely send any traffic. I have seen good results from local and niche directories in some cases.

Links from directories can add to your backlink profile and will give a 'little' boost to your SEO score.

IT really depends on the directory. Even if the page your link is on gets good traffic you are still only one link on a page that probably has 25+. If a directory has a "featured" section these tend to be near the top and often get a much higher click through rate.

Directory submission doesn't bring clients and huge traffic but there are two directories where you can get clients, they are DMOZ and Yahoo Directory.

Personally I feel that directory submissions can help you with things like page rank, etc, People surf directories for the purpose of finding clients but that should not be you primary target, a lot of people prefer to use search engines like google etc for finding clients

I've got a lot of good traffic from niche directories. This traffic often converts to repeat visitors and also tends to give me links from their sites. General directories are much less effective for traffic, but help with PR and ranking in the search engines if they're well edited.

I get a small amount (1%) of traffic from directories - but only from directories that are a couple of years old or more. From new directories I got listed on in the last 6 months or so, I get nothing.

DMOZ and yahoo are the only directories worth being listed in now. you know that google is not devaluing their links, you no that webmasters are not noindexing pages, and you know that your link will be crawled, plus points for high pr...and traffic

I'd say it also depends on the category and number of competitors on the directory. I do get traffic from categories with 150+ links but they have an 99% bouncerate.
