Does Directory Submission Lower PR?

Discussion in 'Directories' started by AlphanetChrisC, Jan 23, 2009.

I mean they give no traffic right? I know that they build backlinks, but are the backlinks even worth it? The reason I'm asking is because I think directory submission lowers PR. I know PR isn't an important factor for ranking but I don't want to lower my PR because of stupid bad quality backlinks.

Let me ask you a question. Do you think a listing on a PR6-7 page in Dmoz, Google or Yahoo directory would lower your PR?

To answer your question, yes they are worth it and no they wont lower your PR.

I'm sorry maybe I phrased it wrong. Is semi-automated directory submission worth it. Like using submission software.

It is always better to do it manually. However, any way you do it, PR will only increase or stay the same. Google may discount or not count some submissions which does nothing but keep your PR the same. However, I have found that any link is worth it and sometimes old worthless links start to get counted.

if you submit to 1000 directories in a week or two, you most likely will be considered spam and lose all of your PR, but the concept of submitting to quality directories would raise your PR if anything

Directories never send traffic or very low traffic, but directories gives you backlinks and backlinks makes your site's strong in SERPs and gives you PR, strong in SERPs means traffic, natural sale converting traffic, so it gives you traffic but in indirect way, this is the main fact of directories submission

Only manual gradually submission to good directories worth

    Directories don't lower your PR.

Directory submissions will help you to generate more back links for your site. It is always better to go for manual directory submission so that you can submit your site into proper categories and also can rotate the title and description for the submissions.

Do reverse mechanism, if directories lower PR - then everyone will start submit the websites of their competitors into directories.

i think u r submit your web on directory very fast so u r penalize by google (reason is spam) so try slow manual directory submission next time.

quality manual directory submission always help to gain pr. :)

Automatic submission is very dangerous and can lead to a penalty but when it comes to manual directory submission then its a common way by which webmasters try to increase the pagerank i.e. pr

No Directory will harm you. It good. even you can do 5k submission in a day if possible but you must be use different title and description. If you submitted to 5k directory in a day measn it's not going tio be approvee next day. Most of hte directory owner takes time up to 90 days I do experiment about it and I dot approved mail after 105 days later after submisisn but with in 45 dasy you will get approved at lest 50% Directory.

How could possibly more backlinks (which are not even blackhat) lower your PR?
You should read more about Google, SEO, PageRank, etc.

Directory submission will increase your PR if you know what you're doing.

Google measures the strength of backlinks to calculate PR. There is no negative effect to PR, backlinks only push it higher.

Why not test it to see if it does? i know you may think its a daft suggestion, but how will you find out otherwise?

But also how will you be able to calculate it? how can you understand what other factors would or would not result in the pr being lowered?

Theres too much other background stuff going on to ever find this out.
