I've been wondering does posting to Digg provide a good backlink to your site?

They used to be Do-Follow, now they're No-Follow. I doubt you'll get anything but a No-Follow link to your website, that's it.

I know that they are no follow, and they have been since I have been using them. However, a link from them shows up to one of my sites. Not sure why, as even the profile links are no follow. My guess is, that nofollow isn't absolute.

I heard that digg only dofollow if they really trust the sites. But I'm not sure how they measure the trust.

Nofollow is useless if you intention is to increase your position in Google. As such, I would avoid acquiring links from Digg for this purpose.

if the site is reputable by digg staff it's dofollow - so sites like wikipedia and whatever are dofollow. If you hit the frontpage your link is dofollow.

The reason why digg pages are still showing up as back links is because google hasn't updated or spidered the pages since when Digg changed the policy. So it still thinks it's a dofollow link but once it indexes the page you'll lose that link(s).

Thanks everyone. I had some Digg links showing up but they were really old. That's what I figured was that they went to nofollow.

I was banned from Digg. I think it was because I had 2 accounts. A shame because it would help index my sites quickly.

Not of any use. Avoid posting with your links, it's utter waste of time.

They are nofollow but they provide many more backlinks if you hit the FP becuase it appears in many popular areas afterwards (Delicious, PopURLs, Jimmyr, etc). At least submitting your page to digg increases the chance of getting indexed, because Digg's pages are crawled so frequently that your page will be found very quickly after submitting (with my blog it's usually 3-5 min).

Having a link on *any* high traffic site, including Digg, will help get your site indexed and cached quickly, even if the links are "no follow".

But that doesn't mean those no follow links will pass you any pagerank, or help your results page rankings.
