Does creating a video help a lot in generating backlinks/traffic to your site?

Hey people i started off as a beginner within the marketing area and now im getting into it, with a few sites up and running. I have some decent constant traffic coming through on all of my sites but obviously the more the better. I haven't done much work to get this traffic and i am thinking of perhaps doing a video about myself and my sites. However will making a video be worth the effort or do they not make much of an impact to your sites? Does anyone have experience of this? Any hints or tips? Thanks

I think a video makes the site look more reliable and professional. IF you make it look good, a sucky video wont help you much :p but if you have the skills it takes to make a good and professional video i say GO FOR IT :D But no matter what a video ain't gonna make you less traffic so why not :)

If you are the product (Meaning are you providing a direct service such as website design, article writing, etc..) then yes it can be good if done well.
Look at what it is your site is offering, go to Google, and see what other people are doing and copy it.

Thanks for the replies but I'm a little confused as to how making a video will increase traffic. Are search engines big fans of sites with videos? And does it mean each time someone views my video, it will be picked up by the search engines?

Well, the idea is you post a good video on a subject relevant to your product or service and put your link in the description box. I'd recommend using tubemogul (its free, google it, I don't want to get in trouble for linking) to upload your video to all the main video sharing sites in one go.

Also, if you write articles then you can convert them into videos and upload them as well. I've found doing this normally brings an extra 100-200 visitors from each article.

Try not to make it look like an advertisement, provide useful and quality content then slip your offer in at the end.

Yes you can use videos as marketing tools to help promote your website.
