Does continous link building with same info harm?

Some website owners do continuous link building and never change the title and description. I want to know if someone makes links for 5 or 10 years, will it be affected in any way?

The way I see it is that "duplicate content" gets penalized in MANY search engines... so changing it up a bit certainly will not hurt.

If you doing the directory submission thing, chances are the directories you submit too are filled with others doing the directory thing as well. This results in nearly every directory looking exactly alike. If we all mix it up a bit, then that changes things.

When I submit my site to directories I use pretty much the same site name, as that is how it should be done (Listing a site under it's title is simply good form on directories) but I do change my description a bit for them. Most of them say pretty much the same thing, but the wording is different. Even if ya just do three or four descriptions and rotate them, chances are if others are doing the same thing, it will still result in varied content in the eyes of the bots.

As Qryztufre says, mix it up for best results. Dupe content is useless nowadays.
