Does Commenting On Blogs really build quality backlinks?

Just a question. I've read loads about how commenting on DO Follow blogs with a good page rank can improve backlinks to your site and boost you own PR. But does this REALLY help or is it just a marketing scam? Has anyone got an evidence of comments they've posted on pages with a good PR that have then shown up in their Google backlinks?

If they are related in topic and have page rank and not alot of other links they do help.

    ffs dont worry about pagerank

they are perhaps the best links you can have. if you have a good blog comment link , it can index your brand new page that's the power.

comments posting is really powerfull backlinks tool, but how do I know which blog allow dofollow links. Is it some rule for example wordpress has nofollow tag and it is on all wordpress blogs or I have to view source of every blog?

It works. You can just search for your search tern like "keyword wordpress" and comment on all (or the first 100) the blogs you find. Tedious and most will have nofollow but one or two follows can bring you way up in search results.

Just use this searchengine to search for DoFollow blogs
    www.backlinkspot.com

Don't post spam comments! If your comment is spam your comment will be deleted by blog owner!

DoFollow blogs can help. Make sure you make good comments, not just "Great Site". Also try to find blogs that are in your same subject.

There are a lot of DoFollow Blog lists out there. Go through as many as you can find and locate sites that will work for you.

Here is one list you can start with. http://blogs.adison.edu/websitepromotion/do-follow-blogs/

Thanks for all the comments people muchly appreciated I just want to make sure that I'm not just wasting my time. I think quality comments probably count more than a quick phrase on a blog which is likely to get deleted.

I agree, at least that's the rule on my blogs. The link must generally be related, and you best be giving some content. Though most link comments don't even make it out of the moderation Queue. I mean, an entry on Backlinks with a comment that says "check out this Travel site <link>" just does not make the grade. Whereas, someone saying "Hey, I wrote about this earlier, but said, blah blah yada yada yad over on my blog. Check it out <link>" will not only make it through, but it runs the chance of me actually checking the blog out myself, and possibly even mentioning it in further posts.

Trading content for links is always a plus when dealing with blog comments.

You make a good point. I don't necessarily mind if you promote yourself on my blogs, but be sure you FIRST add value to my blog by talking about the subject of my post and then ONLY linking to additional information that may or may not agree with what I said.

"Great post", "thanks", "You Rock", etc. Add no value to the discussion and will get deleted.

Yes it does help you. people dont realize that any link helps you. Doesnt matter if its on a follow blog or not. All follow links are worth something.

Of course it works, but if your comment has no value to the subject then it may get deleted, if its obvious you are commenting just for the sake of a link it may get deleted, if you are commenting in places that are full of comment spam then it may count against you

Does this also matter if the blog in question has the "do-follow" plug in enabled?

Think beyond simply what's good for SEO and think about what's good for the online community. If you write a helpful comment which adds to the discussion, and include a link back to your site which provides more good and relevant information about the subject at hand, then that's good for the online community, and as a result will almost always be good for your own SEO.

It doesn't help you as much because anyone can get those links, and often they're so diluted. Other methods are better, such as the brand new Qassia. They're building up a new information system, like Wikipedia, and give backlinks and traffic to users.

There's a new site called Qassia where you can submit information and facts (doesn't have to be a long article, it can be a few sentences and on any topic imaginable, as long as it's true information) and you get backlinks on your profile and for every "intel" you submit. Currently they're closed to open entries and only allow sign-ups for other member profiles, so you can sign up here: http://superblogging.qassia.com/

Backlinks galore! :) Let me know if you need help with it, the sooner you get in the better.

It helps if the blog is quality related blog. Links from blogs is counted as backlinks by google even it's nofollow.
