This is a complete distortion of my question. In any case, when you claim you're a Jew I thought that implies you are a descendant of Abraham. I didn't mean that as an insult in any way. So what then makes that a Jew? But I better stop because I don't want to hijack this thread. Maybe I'll get you to answer this question in another thread. But back to my common sense stOx: when you live in 2007ad and all the world's newspapers (with the exception of perhaps North Korea) use the time that refers to Jesus birth and YET you still claim he's NOT the most influential person to have ever lived, I think it's time to question someone else's common sense. You show your weakest when you don't provide direct answers. Or was this sentence to the left something you were maintaining in one of your earlier posts?
There is a difference between being racialy a Jew and religiously a Jew. Like i explained before. If you think that being the basis for the year in the west is the most influential thing ever that's up to you, But we had to get a year from somewhere so it may as well be jesus' supposed birthday. Now you are just repeating yourself hoping that i will give the answer you were looking for.
I understand this to be the case for any other religion except Judaism. After all as I understand it a Jew is a direct descendant of Abraham. Sure not all Jews follow Judaism for whatever the reason, yet you would be contradicting something when you claim you're an atheist even though you claim to be a Jew (a descendant of Abraham). I am not hoping for an answer. I am past this point with you. I understand your objection since accepting truth would somehow validate a Christian's point and that would be the atheist's sin of sins. Which is something I am sure you will not do.
The Jewish religion claims the Jewish race are a descendant of Abraham. Your claim that i wouldn't say jesus is the most influential person because i'm an atheist is completely nullified because of who i did say was the most influential person according to the list. Again, You are proven to be dishonest and unable to think rationally.
Your feeble attempt to answer a well established fact which may make you lose your status of atheist of the month doesn't validate your claim that I am to use your words: "dishonest and unable to think rationally". But hey, what do facts have to do when the main goal is winning an argument at all costs
It seems to only be a well established fact to you, Which doesn't really make it a fact and hardly makes it well established. You were proven to be dishonest and unable to think rationally, You said "accepting truth would somehow validate a Christian's point and that would be the atheist's sin of sins", even though i said according to the list mohammad is the most influential. If i'm not saying jesus because i'm an atheist why would i say muhammad? It's because i am intellectually honest and know that saying a religious character is the most influential person does in no way add credibility to any claims that the religion is true.
Based on the number of people on earth that are Christian isn't Jesus is the most influencial person ever? Isn't that a statistical fact or does that go towards popularity only?
I have yet to talk to an athiest who doesn't bring up God. Usually that quickly turns to saying something about Jesus. Just look at all the threads here. I think that athiests talk and think about God more than some of those they call "religious" or "christians"
Really, an atheist bringing up God? No way! It's almost as if the belief or disbelief in a God would be one of the two main subjects of a religion and politics board, regardless of your personal beliefs! But seriously, is this surprising? To be an atheist, you need to discuss the entity God, and why you don't believe in him. Of course we discuss the concept of a God often, since the reasons behind not believing in God's existence are the very root of atheism. This should not be surprising. To respond to the second half of your statement, not all atheists refer to the Christian God solely. Some when referring to God, speak of any general God. Also, is it any surprise that in a country of >80% Christians, that when atheists talk about disbelief in a God, they reference a Christian God? I'm sure atheists in a Muslim nation would commonly refer to a disbelief in a Muslim god, and so forth for the dominant religion of the different regions of the world. This should be basic common sense.
But do you have anything else to bring up then? If this was true then more athiests would actually not like islam, but as you can see from this forum that most are defending islam. (Then of course say they hate all religion equally???) There is only one you really seem to hate, and guess what, no one is surprised. Your facts are a little off, even many who call themselves Christian, only say that because their parents or families are. This puts protestant and catholics combined at less than 80% and if people were honest about it I think it would be less than half that number of those who actually practice or even believe.
Do not worry, you are misguided here, islam is for me the religion which ask the most stupidity and submission to stupid ideas from its believers. Like if the biggest bullshit works the best! It's just that atheist in islamic countries must have a very hard time because with religious it's better to be a believer of another religion than to deny the existence of god, imagine... It's a felony in islamic ruled countries. But in mostly christian democratic countries, then yes atheists are talking with christian, so they talk about their own fairytale. But trust me all religions are equals in that they are full of xxxx
The trouble with debunked is his brain can't work out the difference between defending someone who happens to be a muslim and defending islam it's self.
Atheists don't believe in the practices of religion and that is possibly influenced by the dominent religion in their regions but isn't it the same God, just different beliefs concerning the same God?
OK, so you defend the head cutter, the mercy-rapist, the mercy-killer, the pilot-in-training the hit the tower.. I get it. You have been called out before as a fake athiest by someone who said you were a muslim in hiding to further your cause. Is it true?
If religion had been invented today, all believers would be locked up as mentally unstable. I mean, put the Jesus tale in a modern setting and see a guy claiming to be the son of virgin and an almighty being... Walking on water would be the least he'd have to do to earn some credability. Having said that I respect everyones belief. Christian, Jew or Islam are all just variations on a common theme, like different filmatisations of the same script. Joseph Campbell looks at multiple religions and their common themes in The Power of Myth, this is a really interesting book that all people should read, religious and otherwise. Anyway, read a few pages of this thread and thanks for all the interesting points of view, of course I found the religious ppls views most fun. I had no idea you had to/could write songs to prove your theories, this could really be a breakthrough for science and will most certainly lead to many new exciting discoveries. What odds for Brian May as a nobel prize winner?
It wouldn't surprise me. I had a Muslim come up to me and pretend he was an atheist for about 15 seconds before he started trying to convince me Muhammad was in the Bible. I'm sure this makes sense in some bizzaro world way of thinking. All you have to do is keep talking to them and eventually they'll say something that will blow their "cover" One of the most common themes of the major religions is trying to legitimize themselves by claiming they accept the Bible in some form or another. It's no surprise to me to find Biblical themes in ancient religions since modern religions do the same thing. I wonder why that would be...
I'm trying very hard to not label you as a complete moron. I really do. Your logic is flawed on so many levels, it is quite amazing you can lead a married life plus a child. If there were no people who believe in gods, there would be no atheism. That simple.
This is border line of personal attack. I will let it go. It doesn't bother me but perhaps if one of the moderators sees it may think otherwise. I actually have more than one child.
