Does Chromosome 2 prove evolution?

Apes have 48 chromosomes, humans have 46. What has been found is the missing two chromosomes have fused to another pair of chromosomes.

Well, actually, similar chromosomes have been fused together.

So, was it evolution or design that put those two chromosomes together?

And how can you possibly prove it either way?

Dinosaurs are also claimed to prove evolution because God wouldn't "deceive" people by putting them in the ground at creation. Oddly enough, it turns out that ID/Creationism doesn't have a problem with dinosaurs as they're mentioned in the Bible.

My guess, is that with a little more thought, people will realize there is nothing deceptive going on here. It'll be interesting to find out what exactly this chromosome does and what would happen if you were to break it apart.

I think evolution is not a doubt anymore except in the mind of believers.
If your mind is free from biblical teaching/reading, then it comes very logically that generation after generation little changes appear to adapt to environment, be it natural environment or social behaviors which enhance success in breeding.

If you mix some religious elements in the picture, then it become confuse and needs to be adapted to rules coming from the religious resources (bible and other holy books for other religion)

Plus there are multiple religions, each explaining things their own way (yes 3 of them share the same basics) so the explanation of design changes with each religion.

With evolution explanation, it makes sense for everybody who has no religious background, it's universal. religions are not.

Chimpanzee chromosome 13 absolutely proves, Beyond all doubt, That evolution is a fact and that chimpanzees and humans shared a common ancestor.

By the way.. Did you find out about this on digg? if you did it was an article i wrote. I had 2 on the same day make the front page of digg. That one and one using retrovirus DNA in both chimpanzee and human genome.

I don't see how two similar chromosomes combined together proves evolution. They aren't the same chromosomes as apes have. A 99% similarity is infinitly many combinations of DNA sequences. And one letter off could be fatal.

We're also very genetically similar to other animals.

In order to think this has anything to do with evolution you would have to believe that at least two apes got together and gave birth to a male and female that just happened to merge the right chromosome that makes us human. As though science even knows what makes us human. The other problem is RNA. If you run the DNA of a mouse ear through the RNA of a human, you don't get the ear of a mouse. It's like trying to run an Intel binary on a PowerPC. The bytes may be virtually the same but the results are far different and most likely, don't work.

Down syndrom is an extra pair of chromosomes. So the other possibility is that apes are a genetically deficient form of human.

Something that is a lot more likely considering extra pairs is something that happens today.

The proof of evolution doesn't need mathematical equations, it's right in front of us if you live in a western city or near an international airport!

Look at humans, they are evolving as races to long exposure to their environment. A black couple cannot give birth to an asian baby, so the theory that adam and eve would be the first couple (which race) and only several thousand years ago is weak.

But if one wants firmly to hold on religious teaching, he can, no matter what you present him.

Please don't tell me that creationists are going to start arguing for devolution in the face of this evidence.

Yes but the "similarity" isn't being argued. What Ken Miller done was say "right, If we have one less chromosome than the chimpanzee where did it go?". He then took the human genome sequence and made the following proposition; "if evolution is correct and we did evolve from a lower primate there must be evidence of this extra chromosome in the human genome, And if there isn't, Evolution is wrong". He then studied the human genome and found that there is evidence of the extra chromosome and there is an explanation to where it went.

he isn't saying the only difference is the fused chromosome, He is saying that the explanation of where the chromosome went and the fact that the human genome once did have an extra chromosome supports the claim that we and chimpanzees shared a common ancestor.

The debate on evolution started and finished in the 19th century - get over it.

It certainly should have finished then. Unfortunately there are a lot of religions whose teachings were formulated and remain stuck in a time pre-dating the 19th century.

That's called adaptation. Not evolution. What Darwin observed was adaptation. It was his imagination that lead him to assume that everything all started as a single blob and "adapted" to the forms everything is today. Every religion has some basis in truth.

So really, you have no proof that it isn't the case that apes came about because of a genetic defect in humans similar to down syndrome. And you also have no proof that those chromosomes really are the same anyway.

You just assume because they're "similar" and science has yet to find another chromosome in an animal that looks like two chromosomes put together.

An intelligent designer creates things in a way that they can be recombined and reused. They do not create everything different from scratch. So, to find similarities says nothing about evolution.

    Another interesting tidbit about "similarity"

80,000,000 ^ 4 (40,960,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000) is about the number of DNA permutations between humans and apes. And that doesn't take into account the RNA which must also change to interpret the DNA as a human rather than an ape. And who knows what percentage of those permutations of the DNA sequence between humans and apes result in death.

That's what happens when "scientists" try to force everything to fit evolution instead of studying things for what they are.

am not sure about the two chromosomes, would have to research it further.
as for evolution, it never occurs to me to question it, as a scientist it is a given, as with all scientists, and most of the sane world, including those religious people who have very sensibly accepted that a god who can create a world like this is also capable of creating evolution.
looking back at jurassic fossils etc., we see creatures that do not exist today in that exact form, yet do exist in a modified form of the original. hence we have evolution.
(sigh) this is a very old argument and i doubt anyone will ever accept what i say. though the wall is showing signs of being persuaded.

LMAO... yes we have no proof that we evolved from apes or anything else directly, however... we have a lot more proof that this was the case as oppsed to some invisible man in the sky snapping his fingers and creatig everything in 7 days. If you want to talk about having proof.. what proof do you have that the bible is actually real as opposed to a collection of fairy tales? Also, have you noticed that every couple thousand years or so the religions that were truly beleived by the people of those times are kept but told as myths to those who believe the new religion? The Greeks are a prime example... people today assume that the Greeks knew all their stories were not real... well how do you know? I am willing to bet that the Gods and Godesses of the Greeks were held in the same regard to the Greeks as the current day view of God is held with religious people.

Thankfully is seems as if the majorirty, or quite close to it, are finally starting to get some sense about them and realizing that religion is simply not the way to go. How many more people have to die under the name of religion before everyone realizes it is nothing but a destructive and controlling force?

And again, the argument falls back to "God doesn't exist."

And has nothing to do with anything that science has observed.

Which is adaptation. Not evolution. And many animals have not changed in the "millions" of years that science claims they have existed for.

It's very difficult to have a discussion about evolution when nobody seems to be able to tell the difference between adaptation and evolution. You could just as well argue that because the sky is blue, evolution is a fact. They are completely unrelated.

The Judeo-Christian religion has not changed since it began. Jews still believe the same books as fact as they did thousands of years BC. Christians also believe those books still as they were thousands of years BC. And now we have the New Testament which has taught the same thing for over 2000 years.

I wonder why the greek myths went away but the Bible hasn't. Probably because the author's of the Bible were not making things up while the Greek Myths were "science" in that time. They would tell a story to explain things. The Bible is a record of events.

Evolution doesn't disprove god, it doesn't even try to. but it proves the biblical account of creation is false. Don't you agree?

As for your second point. For an animal to evolve it has to be subject to pressure from it's environment. if it's well enough suited to it's environment natural selection can not do anything. To evolve a species needs it's environment to cause the least suited to die and the ones with beneficial traits to reproduce and pass on the beneficial characteristics.

But all you are going to do is what the religious do in every thread. Claim evolution doesn't disprove something it isn't trying to disprove.

Are you saying the Jews are right? Or are they wrong? Or are the Christians right for changin their beleifs for what made more sense to them at the time? Thats is how religion evolves in my opinon.. people change their beliefs and views to adapt to the time.. how else could the pope be allowed to change rules here and there.. does he speak to God on regular basis to get updates and addendums to the rules of religion? We are stuck in a transition period where we have the people who are going along with what now makes the most sense and giving up the fables of yesteryear... but there are still some sticklers left around giving everyone a hard time... as for the Greeks... I am assuming they were killed off for not willing to adapt to the new beleif that made more sense at that time... our current bible. If that is the trend of things then what can be said of those who are forcefully trying to hang on to their old scool beliefs...?? I'll leave that up to you.

Yes I reckon it's absurd to talk about that, it's in front of our eyes. Adaptation of the body over thousands generations is called evolution! And the different humans races show that for different environments several features have emerged.

There's no doubt to have, and taking into account a book, such as the bible, is foolish. You need to be educated about what this book says in order to begin to take it in, evolution is much more simple and universal.

If you feel threatened by evolution theory, don't be. You can always revert to saying that such a great designer could have made the world in 7 day, beginning by a big bang, and simulating millions of generations in species (something we can't understand, because as you know the creator can do things we can't grasp with our human brain) and then actually began real time some thousand years ago only. And here you go..

Alright... here is a question for the religious folk... if God did create this planet and life and all that... than it is quite possible he created other planets as well and other life as well... and it is possible he likes them a lot more... perhaps he has forgot about us or simply doesnt care... maybe thats the reason this world is going all to hell...

Adaptation stays within the species. It's assumed that eventually adaptation will lead to new species which would be evolution.

They are not the same thing.
