Does changing title of page affect ranking?

One of my site ranks very well on some good keywords. What I would like to ask is if changing the website title can affect my rankings? what I am worried about is if I change the title it will remove my site from the rankings or it will push me down.

Is it advisable to change the title at all?

    Please let me know.

    Thanks.

You want to make sure your keyphrase(s) appear in your Title as it's the most valuable of all the on-page elements. Ideally you want to make sure it is as close to the front of the tag as possible and you minimize filler words.

I'd strongly advise reading the Search Engine Ranking Factors Guide at SEOmoz (found here http://www.seomoz.org/article/search-ranking-factors). This is essential reading for anyone starting out with SEO and a good, quick reference for the rest of us.

    Hope that helps :)

Yes it would be. Your change cause Google to re-evaluate your site then your ranking would be dropped a few spot initially for a while (around 3-5 days I guess) and if your change is not too much then your ranking would be swing back. Depends on your competitor also.

It is does affect it some but not that drastic. I would make sure that your keywords remain in the title. I changed mine completely and it had no effect at all.

Yes, title has a huge impact on SERP. Just keep the keywords in it, and you should be fine.

Ya, if you change your title then you may lose ranking for that keyword phrase. Google indexes pages, not sites, and displays them according to relevance. You will lose ranking if the page you are currently ranked for changes title, for then it does not seem to be relevant to the topic.

If your new title is les relevant to the keyword, then you will drop, if it is more relevant, then you may experience a rise in rank.
