Does cancelling a redirect make Goole penalize you?

I read somewhere that canceling a redirect makes Google penalize the site previously redirected to.

I had temporarily redirected my main site to the blog and Google had taken note of the redirect.

Is it likely that I'll be penalized and be thought of as trying to fake my pagerank?

Is the new page indexed? Did the old page have links towards it? Did people have the old page bookmarked?

Why remove the redirect? Is it doing any harm?
