Hi guys, Does purchasing domains with keywords in them and forwarding to your site still work? For example, if I own football.com, would buying footballnews.com and forwarding it to football.com help with rankings? Or, how about if I used footballnews.com as an aggregator for my football.com site, displaying the stories there with links to the full post on football.com? Any help would be appreciated!
Yes, as long as you build related backlinks to the site. Keywords alone won't do the job, but backlinks juice will be transfered to your redirected site. This is the most popular strategy that big guys are using to rank for high competition keywords on google. They buy tons of domains and blast thousands of backlinks then they do 301 redirect to the original site. Aged domains performs way better.
Build high quality backlinks to your site using anchor text as a keyword that you want to rank for. You can build links from WEB 2.0, Article Submission, Social Bookmarks, Blog Commenting and more. Don't forget to diversify your backlinks. You don't want 100% of backlinks with the same anchor text. Make them look more natural. Pyramid structure works great. Tier 3 Links -> Tier 2 Links Tier 2 Links -> Tier 1 Links Tier 1 Links -> Money site or Domain redirected to Money Site. Remember that seo juice is collected through all this tiers and at the end to your site. Works like a charm.
No it wouldn't help. The only legitimate reason a domain name was if it was getting type-in or relevant link traffic.
It is helpful, but not essential. You might get something of a boost at first, but it will fade over time.
