hi guys, i find many SEO gurus promoting the so called " blog commenting" technique. The say there are thousands of "DO-Follow" blogs which can be used to increase PR of our site/domain etc.. but even when the blog homepage has a decent PR, the comments page have zero or no PR at all.. which means you are commenting on a say PR 4 site and yet receiving a PR zero link isn't? can anyone throw light on this?
Not necessarily. If you search carefully, there are blog inner pages with PR as well and it could be dofollow. However, can't say whether there will be huge benefit in terms of link weight. I did tried before using the strategy but the pr and serp changes have been minimal.
I think this strategy is only effective when you are consistent with it. It is also very important to comment on blogs & posts that are relevant to your niche. It is tough to build PR this way, but a ton of blog comments will help your search engine rankings. Many people prefer other strategies such as articles, press releases and forum signatures.
Personally.. I feel Blog commenting, article submitting is just TIME WASTE! Target search engine traffic.

Blog commenting, especially on the do follow, high PR and niche specific blogs will help you gain valuable backlinks and increase in PR along with a small increase in traffic. But blog commenting alone is not sufficient to get traffic but you have to use a combination of methods including frequently refreshing the contents...
If done just for the PR juice, blog commenting is certainly the least effective method. As mentioned by OP, the post page where comments are listed are usually 0, while well ranked ones are mostly no-follow. Blog commenting can be useful though for visibility, if the interaction is good, related to your niche and the blog itself is highly visible. Regards, RightMan
Blog Commenting still relevant if you can find PR page and don't spamming...it will build your backlinks and give you a little traffic. The key is make good networking. Andy

You can actually get those inner page with PR. Eventhrough you make comment on the blog with high PR homepage but zero PR inner page, it will help too. The reason is the quality site PR have high potential to get better PR in future, same happen to their inner page
i have seen a PR 6 domains few months ago having zero PR at the comments page. IF a domains has a PR 6 then it has been there for a long time isn't it? then why are those comment pages still been given a PR 0.
I have seen people outsourcing the work of blog commenting. but what is the point in doing it when there is no link juice that can be extracted.
I think it really is helpful because why would those people spam their messages while any dork can see that those messages aren't relevant to your post.
Yes, it does work. However many blogs are nofollow, which means they don't pass any link value to your website. The key is to find "dofollow" blogs on relevant topics. I use Comment Kahuna software and it works very well.
ya i am talking only about DO FOLLOW blogs here. Correct me if i am wrong: As far as i know comment kahuna allows you to find a do follow blog which has a PR at its home page and not it's comment page. so it's the same as getting zero PR backlink isn't?
ya i do agree that a comment is taken as a link but is it really worth to spend time on commenting is the question. people think posting comments on a PR 4 blog gets them valuable incoming link. but is it really true is the question?
