Does blog commenting still work? What is your experience?

I've been thinking this for some time now, maybe because my industry is a bit difficult.

I've been using blogsearch.google.com for some time. But the only thing that I find by the search "timber" is some Nofollow blogs or article websites with low PR and I started to think that maybe it doesn't work anymore.

I'm trying to get to google page Nr.1
    What is your experience?

Would love to get an answer to this question as well.
In general, you shouldn't limit yourself to such techniques only.
Maybe you can try some profile links as well.

As Goldenwolf said, you don't want to limit your link building to one technique like blog commenting. Blog commenting IS effective from an SEO perspective if you comment on blogs w/ followed comment links and on pages that are indexed. As always however, it should be noted that over time the effectiveness of comment links will decay once the post rolls off the home page... and then off of the first page of the category page. Commenting on NOFOLLOW blogs can still drive traffic if you comment on relevant blogs, but such comment links will not help your rankings at Google. Other engines may count NOFOLLOW links in their ranking algorithm, but Google does not.

It does work as long as you can find blogs that follow links. But the issue is that the link value will become nil at one point or the other as many blogs offer dofollow just to attract comments and then add a nofollow later down the line. So in my opinion the gains are short term.

Yeah but the thing is that I did almost everything that's possible, I do get backlinks and some changes on search engine rankings but when I started doing blog commenting I didnt feel any changes at all. Thats why I started to think that maybe blog commenting is just waste of time

I see blog commenting as a pretty low form of seo, with only small benefits. I might do a little for a new site just to get some quick links and from a variety of sources, but in my opinion they are low quality and decent backlinks from higher quality sources will be needed to really push you up the ranks.

It works as long as the SEO is pinpointed and mostly works good and better for on page optimization for yahoo. So make sure you don't just put any think and leaving back links. Always keyword optimize the backlink if possible.

If you have good software and focus on niche related blogs you could see PR1,
good Google rankings and free traffic. Yes commenting still works very well.
You will need to comment on High PR Do Follow blogs, related blogs will help the most.

Right so what I hear - is that blog commenting is basically rubbish. It work only for a short time. That's not what I'm looking for when I build links.

    Thanks a lot

If you are commenting on a blog site with good pr that is dofollow and say you commented on a post on the first or main page you might get a bump for a short time. As the site ads more blog posts you will move to page 2, page 3, etc. where the pr is not nearly as strong and might even be 0. If you can find an actual blog post/page (permanent pr page) that has decent pr itself then you could end up with lasting pr passed your way. Of course there are a number of other things involved, dofollow, how many other links on the page, is your link key worded, will the page hold it's rank or might it decrease. You can sometimes find pages with more permanent pr in the blogs inner and older posts that were posted before the last 1-2+ official google pr updates. However, that can be time consuming to find sometimes.

Blog commenting ,i think now is no worth to use it cuz i can not get high authority backlinks at all even though the site has pr 10 due to theirs nofollow links was implemented. i better try to find other ways to gain the page ranks wisely.

Try using more broad keywords when you are searching for blogs. "Timber" is pretty specific, but if you use a broader search term you will get more results.

For the amt of effort put into a good comment on someone's blog, you can spend the time to craft a pretty good post on your very own blog.

Do take note that people will only visit your site if they find your comments valuable. So commenting on other people's blogs works if you do it correctly. But a lot of time and effort is required and it is best that you focus your efforts on just a few.

For me, I just found a few blogs that I liked and that I could relate to and started commenting on those. Slowly, I started conversations with ppl who visited these blogs and this has helped me alot .

I still do some blog commenting but not a whole lot because a lot of them have moderation enabled and the links never get approved.

I think comments will bring you traffic, but not PR.
I am sure google know that it is not main content.

Yes blog commenting still works with some terms & conditions like
    -- Blog should be relevant
-- Blog should have Good PR
-- Blog should provide you dofollow link
