My question is does just having your website linked in a dir actually increase your PR? Even the directories that are PR5 that is only on their home page and if you click under the individual categories where your link would be it's always PR0 so I don't see how it would help?
I know it can increase rankings. Even though a category is a PR0 most of the time the links will still get a boost in the SERPS. We have done testing on this and in most cases it works. We had a new website that only had links from a few directories. The directory pages were PR0 but somehow the new website got a PR2. (only had a few links from directories nowhere else)
Directory submission should be only a part of your link building campaign. Don’t rely on directories as your sole link source. Directories related to your websites product or service will be most effective.
My experience is that you can get to a PR3 and some search engine boost from nothing but free directories...even if the category pages don't have any visible PR.
i confirm, i have a few new sites which has only submitted to directories so far, they all got pr2's in the last update, but again, i am very selective about which directories i submit to, so other my have a difference experience.
If the page your link will appear on has a higher PR, it could certainly help increase yours. But if the page your link appears on has no PR, isn't indexed, has bad neighbors (adult content, online pharmacy links) then it may actually hurt your PR more than help.
yes, definitely it increases PR but now i don't think it will as i have heard that google don't give any importance to backlinks. Not the backlinks then what?
when you submit link to directory it will grab by google bot, yahoo bot etc; After that they will be count as back links. If you got lot of back links your page rank will be increase. It dosent matter you posting your link in PR10 or PR0 site. Most of bot's only need to know who is referring your site.
Keep in mind that a page where google toolbar shows PR 0, may have a PR anywhere between 0 and 0.99, it's not an integer within google's system. With 1000 such PR 0.xx links, you can still get PR2 or 3 easily. Though as other's said, directory submission must not be your only link building method.
Absolutely, its one more time your website link is out there online, with its keywords, it helps your PR/SERP
