authorize.net does not work with paypal. Also, you need to have a merchant account to use authorize.net, they are a payment gateway and not a processor like paypal.

CCNOW and PAYPAL are basically the same type of service, third party payment processors. As mentioned, you will need a merchant acct to use authorize.net, which is a 'gateway'. Be sure to read and understand the Terms of Service of each of the services before choosing one. Call them up and ask questions if you don't understand something or how it works. Depending on what you're doing or selling, it may be a good idea to start with something like paypal or ccnow. Once you approach $1000/month in transactions, then its probably prudent to start looking for a merchant account. One the other hand, you may want to start out with a merchant account to avoid some of the pitfalls that have been encountered by numerous people with a service like paypal. Good luck with your project!

Whatever choice you make, paypal, or merchant account, you can add the other service later.
