    Hope this helps!

    1) Backlinks: What are backlinks and how do you get them. Do you need a lot of backlinks or just good ones to make money?

Backlinks are links from other websites (blogs/forums/directories etc.) that link back to your website. Here's one that links back to an article writer/spinner - article spinning and submission software

your backlinks should have your keywords (anchor text) and are more beneficial if they are on a site related to what you are marketing. Sites with higher PR (page rank) giving you backlinks will give you the best results

    2) Keywords: Are keywords supposed to be in titles or in the article, or both? What if you're subject matter is not in the top 500 keyword searches? Should you just work them into your articles anyway?

Keywords should be spread out throughout the article (and in the title) at a keyword density of 5% (this will vary as some people this the density should be higher and others think it should be lower).

Not sure what you mean about the top 500 searches? I promote my own company which is extremely competitive as the main keywords are "real estate leads" but I am the number 5 result in Google for this search. Taken me a long time but lots of articles and link-building has gotten me there

    3) What is an article spinner? Is there a good one that I should subscribe to?

Article spinners can be great. I use Unique Article Wizard but it doesn't work for submitting to the top sites like ezinearticles so I do those ones manually.

I thought I read somewhere that blog comments are worth more than forum posts. Do you know if that's true?

another thing - do make sure to submit your article versions (submitting same article 100 times does not help - duplicate content pages are suppressed) to good article dirs as the not so good ones may not even be getting indexed at quick regular intervals, which means your links may not be counted.

It has to grab their attention and make them feel like they want to do it, not just make them feel like "oh hey whats this random link here lets look at it".

Blog comments and forum signature links are work more for the traffic than the little seo value that they have.

I haven't found a spinner to work well for me. I can write a nice 300 - 350 word article in about 15 or 20 minutes and have it up on ezine in just a couple of hours.

I'll usually write 4 or 5 articles, take a break from that, go back and write another 4 or 5.

Fortunately for me, it comes easy... I once wrote 38 articles in a day just to see how many I could do in a day but I was pretty spent at the end of the day.

A good tip for those that have a hard time writing would be to go to a park, a restaurant, McDonalds, Panera Bread, a hotel lobby... any kind of different setting and write.

You will have a clear head and see things from a different perspective.

jaxrefinance, sorry, but I meant good traffic. I should have said that in the first place.

Getting 100 or so hits a day, as an example, is pitiful, especially when just about all do not come back, along with a high bounce rate.

But, some are happy with working hours on end and getting minimum, VERY low, in the two digits traffic, so they may think that is good. I don't know.

It's all in how one individual looks at it.

I get over 7000 hits a month from ezine and it's targeted traffic that converts.

Maybe there are those that can't write decent copy and get targeted traffic but I am fortunate that I get a good response from my article marketing. It's a combination of God giving me a good mind and my parents giving me a good education.

I personally do not care if they come back a second and third time as my sites are set up for a one call close.

This was my initial post to his question:

He did not ask in what way it works or doesn't work, so I put it in that manner.

Getting a couple of hundred hits a day or so from article writing (while at the same time working to put out soooooooooo many articles every...single...day) is not what works when it comes to getting good traffic.

If that is what he is talking about.

Again, some may think getting only a couple of hundred hits a day or so, along with a high bounce rate, is good, that it is good traffic.

Maybe he thinks it is. I do not know.

If he is talking about making money, then, yes, of course it works.

Looks like the guy who started this thread has run away?

I don't understand how 3 months of article marketing can fail, unless a) they didn't submit hardly any in that period, and b) the articles weren't good enough to get the click through.

Even without keyword targetting, you'd still get the initial surge from EZA front page placement for the few hours it's there.

It's some of the best traffic there is IMO.

They have to jump through many hoops before clicking your resource box.

They're interested enough to find the article, read the article, then click the resource box with all those damned distractions on the EZA page, including links to other articles and AdSense.

    That makes targetted, quality traffic...

Article writing is one of the cornerstones of SEO and Traffic generation for those without deep pockets to advertise. Like someone else stated just make sure you are writing about something people actually search for. In other words pick your keywords wisely.

About a month ago I tried out an automatic article submitter for one of my sites and yesterday I discovered my site is not in Google anymore. I was #1 for a couple of keywords to.

Sometimes sites bounce in and out of Google for what seems like no good reason.

Which article submitter did you use?

Mike, if you are submitting the same article using one of those submitters, the benefit is negligible at best. Having unique articles out there works best and using a linkwheel system without closing the wheel using unique content is even better yet.

The power of article marketing can not be denied. It is an effective marketing strategy. You can build link through placing links in the author bio. You might as well need to spin your articles so that duplicate content are avoided. The use of article submission software like Senuke is an advantage too in article submission, as this helps to save time and effort. But of course the article must be keyword and rich content.
