Does Article Marketing Still Work with SEO?

@Mattcutts is head of Anti-Spam department of google and if he hates this process, then their must be a discussion. I just saw an video by Matt Cutts, and it seems that he don’t like article marketing.

Don't go for spinning type things and Auto Approved Article Directories, it will give you negative results...

Use 100% Original/Unique and Quality content for Article Marketing and try to use Blogs (Guest Blogs, Guest Authoring), this will produce the most effective results...

Obviously, Article/Content is an important part of the internet and regarding article marketing I would only say write some good quality content and not scrap one. Published those article at some good article directory (That not hit by panda/penguin by Google). Another Important things is post 1 article at 1 article directory or maximum 2 websites. More than that may be called as duplicate/spamming technique.

I would say that it still works, and is still useful for getting your site ranked easpecially if it has unique content

Anyway, I think the typical article marketing sites are not so good, because:
-most are extremely exigent and often even unfair when banning articles for various reasons... so getting them on can sometimes be very difficult
-most of those sites use "nofollow" links for links, but many don't even allow any link!
-the article will get buried on some hidden page, lost amongst thousands of other articles that no-one ever reads
-Google itself might consider this content spam, especially if you put a lot of effort into it
-some people copy-paste these articles into their sites, making your site susceptible for duplicate content - they will duplicate your content and put it on spammy sites

I guess it's better to put article marketing articles on quality relates blogs. Blog posts are better. Article posts on related quality sites.

yes it definitely still works, but you need to do it in bulk, and make sure that the anchor keywords have some variance

 

For the most spun articles have little benefit but some article sites still come up on page 1 for certain keywords so it will not hurt.
