hi sorry if i sound like a noob but am learning seo and seen that all ppl recommend article and dir submissions as a start to get one way links. My question is.. Is it really helpful in getting higher SERPs and traffic with correct usage of anchors in the resource box or titles?

    Well.

In article directories, u are basically getting anchor text.

In regular directories, your site is being classified as to what it really relates to.

So I think regular directories are a better bet.

I mean now we have blogs, which are filled with textual content and anchors.

And also, if u look on googles help, they encourage you to submit your site to good directories and mention dmoz and yahoo directory.

Yes these are usefull for getting free one way links * though its quality which matters more * .. though dont expect much traffic from regular general directories but these help in getting links * but one should go for quality and should avoid linkfarms * ..

Correct me If I am Wrong :) ;)
