Example of "bullshit" directory: www d o t giessennet d o t de Seems to me very few humans would find this useful, but google will probably give such directories brownie points for being directories, so if you buy links there it could be cost effective. I'm guessing that most link buying there goes through an intermediary like espotting, but perhaps this isn't always the case. Does anyone have a list of bullshit directories that are cost effective, or have other qualities to recommend them? Does anyone have strategies they can share concerning the use of such B.D.'s? Appreciate any input. thomas.
Why is it they are "BS" directories? As long as there are direct links pointing to your site, It would be of benefit. Without all these "BS" directories, getting links would become a lot harder for most people. Even those who tend not to use directories for links would suffer because the people that they rely on for links, might be relying on the directories. Directories are cost effective if you can afford them. If you can't then it's not cost effective. That particular directory would have a hard time being spidered (Just look at the URL's) so personally I wouldn't list in it. (It might be OK now, but when more subdirectories are listed, I think it might come into some problems.)
Very good free bullshit directory - http://dmoz.org/ + http://directory.google.com/ + hundreds of other mirrors
I used the term BS because the official google propaganda is they want to ideally reward links that actually generate traffic. A link that generates a lot of traffic should, theoretically, count more than a link that generates very little traffic. So, Dmoz isn't a BS directory because a lot of people actually use DMOZ, whereas computer generated directories like the one I pointed to probably get very little traffic, and only exist because SEO people use them to manipulate google. But hey, if they work cost effectively, I agree, it definitely makes sense to use them. Just trying to figure out the best strategy here... Thomas.
I get little to no traffic from my DMOZ listings. The value of a dmoz listing is in the links I'm going to receive in all the mirrored directories (like Google's directory) not the traffic I receive from people clicking on them. Buying directory links is a great strategy. It's even better if the directory allows you to choose the anchor text for your link. Make sure the directory is using URL's that are easily spidered and static links to your site before paying for a listing.
Do a google search on "powered by myengines" and you will get some good results for german for pay directories. Does anyone have any other tips on finding pay for play directories? Thomas.
There are so many free directories and reciprocal link directories that I just cannot (personally) imagine signing up for a pay directory.
I get *very* little traffic from my DMOZ listing, as well. As for paying to be listed in a directory...I wouldn't do it. Here are a couple of free (and easy!) directories I've recently found, that have a decent PR: http://www.hyperclix.com/sub_link.htm http://www.e-commerce-directory.com/submit.cgi http://www.ruhim.com/add.cgi
isedb has quite a few good free & pay directories.. http://www.isedb.com/html/Web_Directories/ forgive me for saying this will.spencer - but has anyone ever likened you to Will Riker out of the next generation ?
Dont you EVER try to submit to THAT directory - I recieved security alert and researched it - I found it being caused by malicious iframe which tries to infect windows hosts file by executing batch used to assign all google instances to http://207.44.199.117/ which will force people to search thru that address which of course has owners Adsense code embed in it - In the case that you got infected, use CWShredder which will easily remove problematic hosts entries.
I agree, there are many ways to build links, paid directory listing is not worth it for many websites
Just happened to me!!!....my antivirus took care of it, but its still pretty creepy. Definitely pass this "directory" up!
We don't, because we as directory do not add all site submited by SEO's so they will charge their client just to submit (means to put text in field of add url form) It is better to submit to directories by your self. You can submit your site to us, also we directories list in our directory.
I would pay for them because you get a high pr page and it's fast and lasts longer in some cases. I might try i sonner or later.
