    Just wondering.

Does anyone respond to email requests for reciprocal links any more?

Recent one's to me get caught by the spam filter.

It's becoming harder to "seem" genuine when you get usual jargon, if you do ask you need to be VERY specific as regards my site to show it as real rather than automated widespread stuff.

I do if it seems like a real request and not some auto generated "we've already put your link on our 75 level deep crap recip link page" e-mail.

I get about 1 legitimate request for every 100 crap requests I get.

Very rarely. Most I get are requests for me to add a link, then they'll add a link if I do theirs first. Many are also either spammy sites or not relevant. It's very discouraging. Considering that I have a place where they can automatically add their sites to mine and it will check for the backlink from their site, and inform me of the request so I can approve it, they should be able to tell by actually looking at my site that they don't need to email me to ask.

I do if they are from good sites and comply with our link requirements - if not, delete!

    I agree with others, I don't bother.

Most that make it past my spam filters, starts off on a false pretense. They act like I iniated the conversation. Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining, and expect me to be your buddy.

    Forget them,

I don't read them at all. I's not worth the time to figure out which one is good or relevant.

I don't bother, but I think it's a mistake to not pay any attention to them.

I would love to employ someone to look after it for me.

I do read the first few lines and I then know whether to trash it or not. If it is a related site and is hand written I may enquire. I usually look to see if they are doing a million trades or actually have a proper resource trade.

Trades I have made based on traffic, not SEO, have always done well for me. Its filtering it out that is difficult.

    Snap.

Sounds like you get the same emails as I do.

Recently I was on the receiving end of a new tactic - along the lines of,

"Thank you for agreeing last month to post a link to our website. We have posted our link to your website here......we would be grateful if you could reciprocate."

Don't these timewasting clowns realise I know who I've agreed to trade links with?

If the site is relevant I email back and ask why they didn't just click on the "add a site" link and fill in the form (yes I know why...) but they never turn up

If they're irrelevant they get deleted

If they're spammy I sneer as I delete them

The amount of link trade emails I get is amazing... they are just a huge pest.

What makes it even worse, is that most of them ask for a link trade with my directories, where they can just add their link and not even have to reciprocate, so it just shows that they are full of BS and didn't even bother to check the site out or have any idea of what it is about

I agree- they are so many lame sites that are asking for links. I don't mind being asked by someone who put time into their site to start with.

It seems most come from 'link building' companies in India, and they say things like related sites that have nothing in relation.

What really ticks me off are the ones who give you a useless link back.

I get a bunch of these type of automated requests - my guess is they are cross-referencing the whois point of contact - a royal spam fest IMHO.

Sometimes.. It really depends on the relavancy. We only accept PR 4 or higher and they have to be related to the sites we have.

I must admit unless they really catch my eye, I never read them. I just get way to many in a given day. The sad thing is I still send them plenty enough requesting link exchanges. I think it has become almost impossible to get a huge number of links from spamming link exchanges to people.

I think those days of mass emailing for link exchanges are over...

What I do now when I see a site I like is look all over the place for something like "want to trade links?" or "your link here"... that tells me that the webmaster is really interested in a trades, and I have a sucess rate of 99%.
