Does anyone own a SMF Forum? If so are you happy with it? Do they allow forum signatures? Thank you, -C
I don't know that anyone ever owns and SMF Forum.. they just look after it for the next generation. http://www.patek.com/html/en/advertising.html Although with SMF Forum maybe it more apt to say you look after it until it is successful and converted to vBulletin. I have had a few SMF - yes they allow sig's. I thought they were terrible though and both are now vBulletin. Eric
I had SMF and it got stuck. Here is a friends SMF FORUM http://fireboard.com/ .. It will load in 30 minutes.
ITS GOOD IF MAKE FORUM SMF. i make it here http://dj-vn.com (demo) . Im finding host to setup new . If you need template i can share
Hm, i have an SMF forum here: http://www.engineeringserver.com/t3hc0d3z/ i do allow sign links etc but not massive spam,, It's not the most active board around because most of the visitors are cs students and post in the private boards about their homework that we get paid to code for them but overall i get decent earings from it. I try to get the public boards do better but its so so. I think SMF is pretty good, used PHPBB2 before smf and i like smf better.
yes I run SMF forum and loving it. [www.ChitChat247.com] I allow signatures and many other addon services. the activities slows down abit though since I do not have much time.
I love SMF. The updates are the easiest for any php run program I've ever implemented. If you have a host account with Fantastico, it will literally take 30 seconds to install. I think vBulletin indexes better but as far as functionality, SMF rocks. And it's free. I have found it difficult to upload "skins" or "themes" on all of them. I got them up there and pretty but they simply weren't stable across all browser platforms and updating them can be a nightmare. So I ended up with one of the ones in the package and and just manipulated the .css file to change colors and backgrounds and added our banner. I had phBB and HATED it. I hear invision is good, too. SMF example- http://coloreddiamond.info (I installed this one) Invision example- http://diamond.info/forum/ By the way, this one runs on vBulletin.
SMF script is my favorite! Yes, sometimes it is a mess when uploading some Mods (sometimes they fail to install correctly) But not sure it is a problem of SMF script but maybe these are Mods problems. Yes, extra SMF forum themes not compatible with 'arcade' Mod etc. (arcade works only with default theme, or you need manually fix it) and extra themes could be in conflict with some other mods. But in general i think SMF is great! IMHO (btw: and there is nothing about slow page loads, as Sigmag said, it just depends how good is hosting and how much ads are on forum pages )
I once had an SMF forum not long ago after switching from PHPBB and I liked SMF much much better. ..And yes, you can allow sig links too.
SMF is awesome... Forum signatures? yeah, what forum software doesn't allow it? mine are at http://www.justgpt.com/forums
I'll join the crowd! I have as SMF forum. My CFO on the Go! I wouldn't say I love it, but the price was certainly right and with fantastico it was super simple to install. I have had some issues getting mods and themes to work together. And I haven't found that many free theme sites. So it's not perfect but it works for me.
I did not know smf had a revenue sharing mode. LunarPages promotes smf forum software over phpBB. I still use phpBB. I heard smf is not as resource intensive as phpBB. Has anyone converted a phpBB forum to smf? Q...
The down side to using the revenue sharing mod is that you cannot have external ads on the forum...no banners or any rotators. Hopefully this can be ironed out in next version. "Jem" made the ad management package and it conflicts with the rev share package.
