I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I'm looking for a good forum that I can place on my site. I already have a forum but it isn't that good. Does anyone know of a free or low cost service where I can set up my own forum?

Are you talking about forum software? If you are then you can use phpbb or Invision Board. They are two popular forum software.

If your hosting account is using cpanel these scripts should be available in your account either as an add on script or through fantastico.

This forum is run on vBulletin - It IS the best bit of forum software available out there. No questions asked.

Invision is no longer free, and as a result isn't available in the cPanel back-end.

If you start on something other than vB, you'll regret it when it somes to porting.

vB is also very cheap, under $90 a year I think.

I agree with vB being an awesome forum software. That's what I use for my forum and I will never go back to anything else.

The reason I didn't mention vB is because tesla asked for something that is low cost or free. From what I've read in most forums people consider vB expensive.

I wasn't aware that Invision board wasn't free anymore. I still have it available through my cpanel.

Weird - I guess your host needs to upgrade...

What version of WordPress do you have available on there?

phpbb is nowhere near the same.

VB costs $85 - if you cant invest $85 in a website - then you clearly dont want it to be very successful.

I just updated my cpanel to the latest version 10.8.0-RELEASE 58 and Invision Board is still available.

I can't tell you the the version of WordPress as I'm having an issue with Fantastico.

Especially now with the latest 3.5 version it makes it so much more attractive. Adding hacks and updating future versions of vB has never been easier.

I use phpBB for my forums and, while I've invested hours in modding them, their extremely fast - full featured - and search engine friendly. And, of course, it's free.

I can very close to purchasing a VB license a few months back, as I've got a site I expect to grow very large in the next two years. After much debate I decided to stick with phpBB, and cost wasn't a factor. I just wanted the best possible software, and phpBB suits my needs once I've got it modified.

Out of the box though, if your not wanting to mod the hell out of it, VB is far better.

a good forum host hmmm. in my opinion you should try http://Forumer.com it is a good forum hoster that offers both phpBB2 and IPB forum hosting. I have been making my forum with it for a month or so without any probs.
