I wanted to start this thread because though currently I live in a apartment, I'm getting sick of paying ever increasing energy prices and throwing away money on a place I'll never own. I don't want to go in on a traditional home that costs over 200 grand. My goal is to be self suffiecient. I've been thinking of moving into a mobile home in the next year or so, as my sites bring in even more revenue. I want to buy an electrical generator to use to power the home. The question is. Does anyone know a cost effective way to get highspeed internet access into a mobile home? Without the net, moving into a mobile home is pointless
Will you have a telephone line? if so, you could use that - depending on where you plonk the mobile home, wou night have to put up with dial-up though. An alternate solution could be a satellite modem - you could also get TV and radio on that. If costs up here are any indication, forget wireless. And cable out in the sticks is a no-go.
I dont know much about mobile internet and such, but I have been looking into this...if you have a laptop they sell a wireless card that plugs right in http://www.t-mobile.com/plans/default.asp?tab=internet not bad for 50 bucks a month
You've got to be in range of a wireless network though, remington. Out in the sticks, like where I live, the startup costs would be about $3000 CAD. One day, wireless may be as common as cell phone networks but it's not the case yet.
I found a company called star band which offers satellite internet access. For a one year contract they charge a monthly fee of $69.99 per month, but with a one year contract. And they charge 400 bucks for their equipment:http://www.starband.com/findadealer/index.asp I will have to look at the pros and cons of this whole thing. The mobile home overall seems better, but I'm not sure. Does anyone own a mobile home of have experience with one? What makes it better or worse than a apartment?
My dad lives in the country and has sat. I don't remember who he uses, but I thought it was roughly comparable to broadband
If you cant get a direct line with cable or dsl i highly recomend sprint and there EVDO netwrok. I have a pcmia card for my laptop and I get super good speeds wherever I am.
Yeah I used to have a sprint card. If you live out in the country though, about the only option you have is satelitte or crappy dialup
Not with internet accelerators - wait time is reduced to often less than 24 hours (actual wait time not guaranteed; batteries not included; OAC only).
Have you ever tried direcway? If you dont' mind not being able to download software above a couple hundred megs and don't mind horrible customer service, with high monthly rates, terrible uploads you're better off with dial up, or constant outages by all means anyone who wishes to use them go for it..
