And they are profitable to those (Al Gore) who sell the credits.

It's the same thing as indulgences, you pay money to Pope Albert and you are absolved of your environmental sins.

Just seen a guy on the news now saying how everyone is being forced to do something for the enviroment and we shouldn't worry people with these things. He said becuase we as a country have improved things a lot over the years, such as cleaner fuel emissions, more recycling, efficient lightbulbs, etc. and we should look more at the positives rather than the negatives all the time. What do u think? Are we over emphasising the environment problems?

Something like 98% of tailpipe emissions have been eliminated over the last 30 years. This was done by the auto and oil companies. I'd like to see the government do something like make traffic lights intelligent, we have pavement sensors and all lights that are networked but still they still stop you at two lights in a row even when they are only 200 yard apart. Another thing would be to have companies justify why they make employees come into work when they can telecommute or have companies work 9/80 (80 hours work in 9 days).

Instead the government is more likely to beat on the auto companies to cut down on the product that politicians exhale and trees use....CO2.

Blanket ban new cars with an engine bigger than 2.5 litres? That might work, but might not.

If one uses 20 gallons per week in a 1.8 liter and another person has a 5.0 liter but only burns 5 gallons per week, who is the greater part of the problem?

I make a point of commuting less than 20 miles per day, there are plenty of people who out of greed live where the land is cheaper and drive round trip 100 miles to Orange County where the checks are bigger, even if they car pool they burn more than me.

It's the fuel consumtion that is a concern not how big the block of aluminum is under the hood.

I do care about the environment as what your mom has been doing. However, there are just some times that I'm unaware of what I am doing to our environment... :(

Where does all the stuff you get rid of go when you replace them with environmental friendly stuff?

I try not to scratch my balls because I hear it releases carbon into the atmosphere:D

I just ran across this thread I posted to and forgot about. Funny how things change since this was started.

Global warming (caused by humans) now, compared to then, is considered a sham any more. Again, funny how things change.

One can't live on the earth without damaging it. The food you eat comes from land that used to be wilderness. No electricity is without damage. (solar and wind require materials mined from the earth)
The only perfect way to help the earth is to eliminate humans.
If you realize this, you must accept that any supposedly green behavior is only a compromise.

The most significant impact you have on earth is your decision to reproduce and to what extent.
I recycle stuff, and want solar panels for my house, but will have as many children as I can.
