Hi All, I'm planning on launching a site with affiliate products in the near future. The thing is that I do not want to deal with customer's information. So I've checked out PayPal and it seems to be the solution. Can anyone tell me about their experiences using PayPal ? I'm relatively new to their services... OneSolo
so far i've nothing against paypal. i recieve payments and send payments and they all end up where they should be.
If it wasn't for PayPal, I wouldn't be able to conduct business nearly as efficiently as I can. You'll hear people crying and whining that their accounts got frozen, but as long as you don't do anything questionable or send/receive a huge amount of money in a short time, you'll be fine. If you're worried about your money, just transfer it to your actual bank account every time it starts to build up.
That's not exactly true, Tyler. Check out this email I just got this week from Paypal - and I am PISSED! It has come to our attention that you may be the recipient of potentially unauthorized funds. We have initiated an investigation into this event. In the meantime, we have placed a temporary hold on the funds in question until the investigation is complete. This temporary hold will show as a deduction in your available balance. In the meantime, you are free to continue transacting using your PayPal account. Transaction Date: Mar. 3, 2006 03:20:07 PST Transaction Amount: $212.70 USD Payor's Email: Check the date - March 3rd!! And this person also ordered another $100+ which is also on "hold" from Paypal. This means that right now, I have a negative balance in my Paypal account (most of my customers use my Authorize.net account - thank God!) So even if you are doing everything right, your customer might not be & Paypal will make YOU - the seller - liable. This customer also had a verified address too. It wouldn't bother me so much if I had been notified within a day or two so I could stop the shipment, but FOUR MONTHS later??? Paypal is otherwise okay - but I wouldn't not depend solely on Paypal for a merchant account. Make sure you offer an alternative payment method (like a regular merchant account!)
You will probably need an Premier Account in order to contact business using the account. Are you handling the Affiliate program in-house and just using Paypal and a means to pay your affiliates ? If so, you shouldn't have any problems doing it that way. If you are collecting payments for your products using Paypal, it will be a great way of funding the account to pay your affiliates.
