I haven't received traffic from search engines... i submit my websites because of link building, not for traffic. :)

I used to get plenty of traffic from directories, considering that's not what I used them for ^_^

Directories = Link Building = Good SERPs = Traffic from SERPs.

So indirectly if not directly, you will get traffic by submitting to Directories :p

I have seen improved rankings for the sites that I submit for on a regular basis to free and paid directories. Direct traffic from directories is like nil but that is a minor trade-off to the amount of traffic from search engines. It really does work, despite whatever else people may say.

I get about 3 visits a month, not much but i guess its something.

I mainly submit for the backlink value.

I do have a question. Do you submit to these directories over and over or do duplicate entries get purged/rejected?

Once your site is approved and listed you can't submit it "over and over" anymore.
If they reject your site you should try to improve it somehow and submit it one more time.
But submitting "over and over" again the exact same site will just annoy the directory owner :D

As a directory owner, I spam nobody, sell the addresses to nobody, and try to get rid of the bogus email addresses. Yes my directory is free and sends marginal traffic to the sites listed but I try to get all the junk submissions out to maintain the integrity. I keep the directory active as it does pay for itself and it is a good resource for people who need it.
I am not looking to get rich or even profit from the directory, it is simply there to provide yet another tool to help people promote their site including my own.
I have a number of listings that I place better on some keywords than they do, thus providing a little traffic here and there and hey, it's free.

heh.. your logic seems right :D

Anyway.. i get some traffic from other directories, about 5 or more visits a day... but it's formed from webmasters who usually don't click on banners or adsense advertising.

if wants to get traffic from web directory go for banner of site wide link on free web directory which has PR 3 OR PR3+ with good alexa below 100,000 it will gain your traffic issue.
and basically directory not made for traffic point of view it's for generate back link. and improve your SERPS.
