Does anyone else have a habit of staying awake 2 days at a time?

Hey folks, so far I have been awake about 30 hours now lol. I don't really have a specific reason for it.. It seems to happen atleast once, or twice a week, I will stay up for two days straight, totally skipping a night of sleep. Usually it happens when I have a good idea and just have to see it through before bed, or any time I am especially productive, I just seem to not go to bed. And if it hits 9am and I havent gone to bed yet, I make myself wait until its dark to goto sleep, so I can atleast get up with the sun once in a while :) My family thinks I am wierd, on drugs or something (and no, I am not, sometimes I wish though!).

Does anyone that does this also get better ideas after being sleep deprived? I know this seems to go against the common sense that a well rested mind is more functional, but once I hit about my 3rd wind, after being awake for 28 hours or so, I start to get some pretty great ideas, that just never seem to occur to me when I am on a normal sleep schedule... Does anyone else experience this?

Also what is your record? The longest I have gone was about 66 hours, while I was programming my stupid drug wars game lol, but I did get it all done in "one day" haha

Also, oddly enough, I get alot more social and friendly when I am deprived of sleep haha

The only downside to this is when I finally go to sleep I sleep atleast 10 hours and am a little groggy when I wake up :p

Not anymore but I still have sleep problems. During my college days, I'd stay awake for 2 days at time, then crash for 12 hours. Now, I sleep every night but have trouble falling asleep so I usually only get a few hours of solid sleep before having to get up for work. I sleep lots on weekends. I've been in and out of sleep disorder clinics for the past 10 or so years.

Me too. I also see "ghosts" when I haven't slept for a long time. Most of the domains I register are done around 4am because I always have new ideas when I can't sleep (which, because my mind is racing, I can't sleep).

Yeah happens to me all the time. I never go to bed just for the sake of it. I have to be dead tired. Being wired on coffee doesnt help.

Have the sleep disorder clinics helped at all? 10 years is a long time, I hope you have seen atleast some results.

I like to live by the rule never to go to bed until I am tired, I know it doesnt work for most people that have to keep a regular schedule, but thats half of the reason I am a webmaster :) It is just horrible to be laying in bed trying to sleep, for hours, while great ideas fly through your head and ya cant do shit about em.

    @dcristo
lol yeah, caffeine is necessary! My monthly cost for my caffeine amounts to more then most of my bills lol. I am addicted to those damn $3 a pop energy drinks, the sobe no fear in particular ;)

humanedited - do you exercise much? you should consider it if you dont... by the end of the day you are that exhausted that you just want to sleep.

I guess I've seen some results since I do eventually sleep every night but for the most part, no. My mind is constantly racing and i haven't been able to figure out how to "turn it off".

It looks like Hillary uses sleep deprivation when caught in a lie

Very strange.. I already have a hard time staying up 16 hours. So far I've never spent more than 20 hours awake. Don't you feel sleepy right now?

The wierd thing is, it comes in stages, I was REAL sleep an hour ago, but it feels like I have never had more energy at the moment :D

Sleep? You can get enough of that stuff when you're dead.

ive done it lots of times, but i don't "do it", and yeah, idea's and thoughts are usually the reason, either that or ive been clubbing 2 days straight, prefer a quiet bar over the past year or so though.

try writing your basic idea down, then working on it in the morning. Apart from chloroform, thats the only thing i can suggest!

I have a habit of staying up 2 days at a time...usually it's cause the first day I wake up around 2 in the afternoon, then don't really get tired till about 5/6 in the morning the next day, and by that time it's no use going to sleep cause i'll be in university the next day at 9 or 10 (usually).

Happens to me sometimes: get a full power to do something and voilá, i dont go to sleep till next night.

When i was a radio professional, i knew a painter, he sells in Japan, NY, WCC etc, a major one, that wherever he started to work in a new material, like 4-5-6 paitings, he didn't stopt till it was done. No sleep, just coffee and more coffee. And this went on for 3-4 weeks.

Every week or so he went to hospital to get a shot of something to replace food and drinks.

    Mad!

I need a good sleep to be in good shape and to have energy...it's unusual to stay away from the bed 30 hours or more...To sleep is good for your organism...try some;)

Nice, I have many fond memories of playing drug wars on my calculator when I should have been doing school work.

I always try to stay awake as long as I possibly can before I go to sleep. Sometimes 24~48 hours without sleep but I always end up crashing for 12~18 hours afterwards.
