Just wondering if anybody has experience in being an about.com "guide" They say you get a minimum of $500 a month for writing. I wonder how much more an accomplished writer can make.
If you are a solid writer, $500 is not much. For example, you might write an article for a decent magazine and receive $1-$2 per word for your efforts. Fifty cents per word is the absolute bottom. That $500 deal also means you need to promote the section as well. It's not just content creation--last I checked.
I don't write for about.com but there I know a writer for one of my niches that does. You can make a lot but it depends on the amount of traffic you get. The more traffic you get, the more you get paid. In my niche, the about.com Web site ranks well so i assume he makes quite a bit. Sorry there isn't any concrete information from here but I'd assume there are quite a number of people who make enough to make it a full time job.
Holy shit I just spent like 20 minutes filling out an application and then it said "Guides must be 18 years old" and I'm like dammit.
