Does anybody run a website, that theyre ACTUALLY interested in?

It seems so many people are on the internet just to create websites to MAKE MONEY. All the websites I see are stupid script ran things where the person only has to log in once a week to change a quick thing or too.

Article databases, topsites, image hosts, parked domains, etc.

I mean, I always found the internet fun, when you get to create your OWN website, with information or on a topic that you love. When I was 13 I started my first website on Halo the video game, I loved that website.

Even up to this day (im 19 now) I still create websites that I atleast have some what of an interest in. I also aim to keep this sites USER ran, as in by humans, not robots.

I get so turned off by robot ran scripting websites with no human interaction at all.

So for those of you who take a risk and open a website with an interest that YOU HAVE, props to you.

There are people out there who do both it just tends to be that the money makers for websites tend to be in areas that people might not be so passionate about

Yes, I have one, but it doesn't really get any visitors because I would have to put a lot of work into marketing it as well which I don't want to do.

Why do you think script run sites are stuipid? Why do alot of coding myself when a script can do it for me, its actually more clever doing it that way than wasting my time doing something that i dont need to do. The people who make the most money, work smart, not work hard. They dont waste time. I myself do run script run arcades. And i love them, i set them up because i played the games myself, so i thought, why not get paid to do it. :)

And 99% of them come on DP saying "Hey, I'm not making money"

Running a site you are interested in secures good profit and interest in the future.

In my eyes to make a website with decent content you do need to have some kind of interest in the topic.

That is true, if you are interested in the content of your website you will be more dedicated and therefore make more of a profit, theoretically.

When I first started being a webmaster I didn't make sites i loved and I hated it.. I didn't want to work on any of them... NOW.. I've been doing this for 5 years now.. I only start sites that I LOVE! I love being a cookbook writer. Plus I am good at it. My other sites teach vocab and beginning math to young kids and I sale a few ebooks. I do want to make money but mainly just want to get all the info in my head out on paper or online for other to use and enjoy.

I used to run some online text-based games.. That was a lot of fun! Nowadays I mostly run sites that make money, regardless of how "fun" it is.

I think there isn't any point making a site where your not interested in. Because you won't be having fun, and won't be successful with it. I've tried making sites that I think would make money and they fail instantly. Now I started making a site which I am passionate about and it's so fun and easy! And I am actually getting somewhere!

I do agree that making your own website is 20 times more fun, but people who don't know really how are amazed that they can have something so high tech like a advertising network or a social network by simply uploading a script. They see big bucks in this because of the other huge ones like it out there and think they can make a profit.

the way you choose to do your website isnt the issue. its how much time you put into it. backlinks are more important then the way you design it or what software you use. Do something you enjoy like me i have a dating website and soon to be starting a question and answers forum about anything.

I mean when people use scripts for website they arnt interested, in most of the times, those sites are ran by scripts so they dont even have to touch it. For example, a directory script or something.

And if your interested in something, your more likely to pour your heart into your website like a few people said above. You can build a nice, honest, friendly community that way, and in the end, you can make a lot of money. It pays off.

For long term, you need to have an interest in what the website is about. Else it becomes too much of a job and you will looking at taking the shortcut.

I've got one main website that I'm passionate about - it's to do with writing for movies and tv - and believe me, if I hadn't had that love for the subject area I'd never have stuck through the massive learning curve.

The downside is, because it's a passion, I forget to monetize it all the time, so despite it turning into something of an authority site it makes very little cash, so it's not all good news!

I agree with screengold. The sites that I care passionately about are beautiful but I'm not good about making money with them.

The ones I don't care about tend to be more coldly professionally managed and I squeeze them harder.

Nevertheless, the websites that I love are so much better that they still make many more $$$$$s.

I guess I love what I am doing because I am interested on celebrity news and stuff. Some people maintain personal blogs so I think it is important for them too even if they are not making too much money compared to affiliate marketing sites.

    Nice topic.
I love my website. Started in 2006 because I saw a show I liked and though I moved on from that blogspot to my own domain, I am now heading for 4 years writing on VH1 reality tv.

Nearly 4000 posts between the blogspot and the dot com.
Still cant believe I did it. But I genuinely love watching VH1 reality tv and I have met and become friends with a lot of people through my site.

More than that, I have facilitated others becoming friends and there have been roommates and relationships created from this site.
So yeah, I am actually interested, lol.
