And a few other small things like: entertainment, clothes, insurance, utilities, hair cuts, toiletries, maybe some gifts for other people, home furnishings etc...

Basically, if you're living in the US and making $1,000/month, you're close to living in poverty. And if you have a famly, you are fucked!

Yes, I agree - $1,000 / month is below poverty in the US. I believe poverty line is somewhere around $18k or so per year. (which is around $1,500/month)

It is important to save money for a rainy day, retirement, and a number of other things. However, if you have money, you shouldn't subject yourself to sub-poverty living conditions (ie bad place to live, no entertainment, etc...)

Also, on $1k - $5k per month, even if you are saving every penny, that's a maximum of $60k per year (well, probably closer to $30k after taxes depending on what state you live in). That is not a lot of savings.

I would rather be saving 20-30% of a larger monthly income than 50-90% of a smaller monthly income.

If Wealth is your goal, then I suggest reading The Richest Man in Babylon.

$1,000 a month from online earnings? I suggest the first thing you need to do is break it down into daily targets. Assume 30 days in a month, that is roughly $34 a day rounded up. That figure looks a lot easier to hit than $1,000, agree?

Also, it should not be all about Adsense. There are lots of other ways to make money online, try to find another 8-10 different "money channels", each channel should contribute to your daily target.

Perhaps create your own product, your own eBook or something. Before long you might have, affiliate revenue, adsense revenue, advertising/link sale revenue, subscription revenue etc etc.

It takes time, you'll make some mistakes, learn from them and keep going. You can make $1,000 a month easy, you just need to sit down and make a plan.

    Good luck!

Work hard is definitely important, but work smart is another criteria. I have seen many making high adsense earnings. I wish I am one of them in the near future. Any other good advice, perhaps you can share with us. Thanks.

I don't doubt that you can live on 1k a month in the U.S. I think a lot of people are thinking about the place where they live - i.e. the post about New York. There are lots of places in the U.S. where it would be completely impossible - in fact, I would bet that most people live somewhere you can't. But if you're willing to live out in a smaller town or a rural area the costs of living are dramatically cheaper. You probably wouldn't enjoy it all that much - it doesn't leave much room for luxuries or even basic entertainment, etc. - but it is definitely something that could be done. You'd have to make a lot of sacrifices and it's probably impossible if you have a family, but a single person could do it.

the thing is...web admining doesn't take that much time if you make it efficient. you can spend 2-3 hours and work a part time (5-8 hour) job in the evenings or in the morning as well.

True, and he said he saved $500 a month, so he was saying you could do it for $500 a month -- utter bs.

You should build sites that utilises your own experience and skills, not other people's. If I told you a cricket site makes money, you shouldn't go out and make a cricket site unless you are a passionate cricket fan. Why? because if you are not a fan yourself, you wouldn't know what real cricket fans want.
If you have a budget, then buy a site and develop it bearing in mind your own interest.
If you are starting from scratch with no budget and content, then it really depends on your personal skills, i.e. how good is your design (e.g. photoshop), layout (html/css), writing (presumably english) and programming (e.g. php, perl) skills. Concentrate on your strong points and come here to ask for help on your weaker areas.

A $1,000 per month is a good goal but there is no way you can live on that! If you find a way, let me know; I'll PM you my phone number and you talk with my wife. Convince her of this and I'll send you a nice check every month :)

I was making a little under $1000 (about $980) a month on my own, and it still is THE worst thing I ever been thru. I'm living in Mississippi, and it's like the cheapest state. After rent and other bills, you barely have enough money for food. I'm glad that's over...
