Does any body know much about domain name disputes?

It has come to a point where I feel that I am being brushed aside by register.com . Do you think it's because I am a citizen from the UK?

My domain bondandmayfair.com was hijacked recently by someone hacking into my Hotmail account and requesting password reset. The Hijacker claims that I sold him my domain by emailing himself from my Hotmail account.

I called register.com right away and to my astonishment they confirmed that this culprit is now the owner of the domain but because I reported that it was fraudulently taken from me they have put a lock on the account and forwarded it to their legal department. Although I am very relieved that they have done this I have a bad feeling about the whole thing as register.com are not even cooperating when it comes down to giving me information leading to his arrest. In effect they are harbouring a criminal under the the computer Computer Misuse Act 1990 (c. 18) 1.1 but not sure if this law stands in court in the USA.

The other thing I am concerned about is that I am a loyal customer of register.com and I have been so for the past 7 years. I have the same Credit Card details with which I paid for the renewal of the domain name in 2004 for a 6 year term and they still aren’t willing to give me domain or any information leading to the arrest of the hijacker!

It looks like it’s pointless having a domain name registrar, it’s just a waste of time. I think domain names should be kept on file by organisations like Nominet and the Inland Revenue, also a record should be kept by the government’s Companies House or a similar body.

I am very angry and lost for words.
