I know that writing unique contents is the best thing for anyone's site. but offline marketing is also necessary. So what are the does and don't s that one webmaster should not do while doing the same so that it could not come under google penalty.
Here is my sum. 1. Quality does matter over quantity as always. 2. Avoid gain massive link in a short period, unless your website is News site or social bookmark like Digg.com. Otherwises it would be caught for unnatural linking pattern 3. Be selective on outbound links. You can choose who you are linking to so choose it wisely. Otherwise you would be trapped for "Bad-Neighborhood" 4. Be cautions before pay or participate in any link building method. Angela is a good example. It has been proven that Angela type of link is Spam and useless to SEO.
it's more important to not build up fast links in the first 4 weeks of link building. After that you can start some aggressive link building. I've found that this works well.. But it's important to build different link types.. ie.. not all blogs or forums
'Bad neighborhood' is definitely one to avoid - ie dont link to 'link farms' or anyone else that has been penalised by google (and don't get those guys to link to you). To test for bad neighborhoods see whether they are indexed on google (either by using the 'site' command in your search or seeing what Page Rank the site has).
I think building links too fast in such a short period of time as well as linking to bad neighborhood is indeed one thing that should not need to use when doing SEO for your site
Don't know if there is a specific number for what you ask honkwok. In general, I saw that more than 10-15 (with high PR or not) links per day AND your not a social web site/blog or news provider is going to tell Google that you are using a link building type service. Any one else?
My site is about 5 months old. I got about 250 back links in first 3-4 months. In the last month i have acquired about another 500, 250 of these are to my home page and the other 250 are the others pages in my site. About 75% are blog/forum posts, 22% one way links from related businesses and 2-3% recip links to related businesses. Does this sound ok?
DOs :: Develop strong, current, and unique content (not just sales stuff) that is both keyword-rich and seen as valuable to your visitors (and others). To the search engines and directories, at least, content is still king, thus creating a valuable knowledge base is essential. :: Conduct competitive research on other top companies and Websites in your area of specialty, making note of their use of keywords and meta tags. And do try various keywords in your searches and make note of the results. DON"Ts :: Practice any unethical SEO strategies, such as keyword stuffing, using link farms, hiding keywords at the bottom of your pages, or faking links to your site. :: Take the meta tags and keywords from other sites, but learn from the top sites in your field -- both in terms of keywords, but also Web page development, navigation, and linking strategy.
Do's: 1. Keep your focus on relevant links only. 2. Publish Unique and original articles, press releases and blogs on article and free blog sites with your links embedded in it. 3. Use important Keywords as anchor text. 4. Use ethical techniques for link building. Don'ts: 1: Do not spam your articles or blogs with lots of links. 2: Avoid Black Hat Techniques for link building.
Do not buy excessive links from web directories. Do not place many reciprocal links on your website Thanks
i just want to ask if this is dos. is it good to link all your sites though not related? and some are add on domains?
If I were in youer place, I will not publish those non related link. Ok, maybe, one or two ONLY with high PR (that's it 4 and above). Why? Bacause Google doesn't like link farms. Anyone else?
starting with at least 5-10 links a day is okays, and then onwards you can increase. But avoid using black hat methods of link building also, quality link is what matter.
I can with confidence advice you to avoid buying links - you'll be immediately banned by the majority of search engines. I prefer also to avoid link wheel in my practice because it is also hated by Google.
