Does Anchor Text really matter in SEO?

    Unless the keyword phrase you are trying to rank for is "My Site Name" then all of these are terrible backlinks IMO. Using your site name or URL as link text ONLY helps you rank for your targeted keyword phrase(s) IF your site name contains the keyword phrase you're trying to rank for.

    If my site name is zipitydoda.com and I am trying to rank for the keyword phrase "helicoptor pilots in california" then links like http://zipitydoda.com and zipity do da are pretty much worthless in helping me rank for my targeted keyword phrase "helicopter pilots in california" even if they ARE placed on relevant sites.

    It's the link text that tells the search engines what the target page is about... so you want links with link text like helicoptor pilots in california REGARDLESS of whether it's on a relevant page or not. Being on a relevant page with the link text containing your targeted keyword phrase is even better... Being on a relevant high PR page with the link text containing your targeted keyword phrase is even better yet...

    But if you have to chose between:

    1) Link text containing targeted keyword phrase on non-relevant low PR page
    2) Link does NOT contain targeted keyword phrase but is on super relevant low PR page or
    3) Link does NOT contain targeted keyword and is on non-relevant but high PR page

    Always choose link text w/ targeted keyword 1st...

    if i have a domiandotcom, then should my anchor be domain or not necessarily?
    and will it help if i have a domaindotcom yet my anchor is Seo Tips?

    Yes you have told all about truth. anchor text play important role to boost your web page ranking in Search engines. So try to put link on your main keywords that will help you lot more... :)

    Anchor Texts indirectly inform Search Engines that you want top rankings for those keywords. If you create backlinks with exact keywords, it will help you to achieve good rankings, but it depends on many other factors too
