Does Alexa Ranking has any importance ?

Hi Folks,

I was wondering is there any importance for alexa ranking ?

Its that one of my sites is gaining alexa ranks quickly in terms of 5ks every week. But the PR of site is only 1.

On observation, I could see some other site of same category has PR 5 but alexa rank less than mine. ( less than means I will be first in ranks )

Also do we need to check anything about alexa ranks while linkexchanging ?

Can anyone shed some light here ?

Alexa has absolutely no importance whatsoever in terms of ranking (or anything else for that matter)

 

All it can do is show you the busiest few sites.

btw, if you are looking for traffic, shall we consider alexa ranking ? I mean if we are about to buy links from sites assuming they give traffic than PR value.

The answer to that is a conditional "YES". Remember that Alexa can only measure the traffic to browsers, or users, who have the Alexa toolbar installed. Therefore the results reflect the browing habits, or activities, of those people. This subset of people may not be typical of the general browsing population at large.

 

There is also a program on the market that, using proxies, can make your Alexa ranking anything you want. It makes it very easy to manipulate the Alexa traffic/rankings- so buyer beware.

I dun think alexa will reflect the real visitors .. my site got 400k 3 months ago and it dropped to 2,000,000 over 3 months... but my site is gaining visitors everyday ..

But i still think that alexa is some how a good indicator for the traffic of the site. The numbers you get might not be accurate but alexe is showing you that the site atleast has that minimum amount of traffic

 

DONT use Alexa for traffic estimates - I have seen sites with <5 uniques a day and a 75,000 ranking. Only if its top 10,000 would I consider alexa might be slightly accurate and then its still biased to 'web' industry sites.

 

I installed alexa toolbar & widegt but no result see alexa.com/data/details/main?url=www.fortunehotels.in ranking of my website here.

 

I don't believe that alexa ranking is important but sometimes it's easier to compare your site rankings with others.

Important to some online advertisers since they look on this alexa ranking but in terms of ranking or whatsoever useless since it can be manipulated..
