The question I ask is whether Alexa Rank can INDIRECTLY affect PR. Alexa has a directory, and includes links to the top 10 sites for each catagory and subcatagory. Thus, if you make it into the top 10 for any category or subcategory, it appears that this gives you an extra link to your website. Does anyone know if those links pass along PR?
Got an example page of these top 10 sites? Just check to see if the page itself has PR, then check the links to see if they're redirected or rel=nofollow'd.
The PR the link will pass depends on PR of the page where your link will be listed AND if the link doesn't have "no-follow" attribute. You can check for no-follow with looking the HTML code of that page. EDIT: Lol, posted at the same time as spainexpat, so...
If you are talking about Google Page rank! i think NO Alexa is Amazon's Product and Page rank is Google's why should they impact each other! I have site with Alexa Rank below 20000 but Google Page rank just 4
You dont need to be listed anywhere to get that ranking! alexa just counts traffic nothing else! My Site is a Torrent tracker, so you can imagine the traffic if the Page view is above 35000 per day!
Yes I know how Alexa works (my site is ranked 17K on Alexa). I'm asking because on the Alexa Directory there's a Submit a site link to Dmoz: http://www.dmoz.org/add.html at the bottom of the page.
10 "most visited links" on the right side are just that - most visited links. You are listed there according to traffic your site gets. Quite different traffic is needed for different categories to get in top 10 though. That about DMOZ is just link to DMOZ.
Well, ... and how Alexa knows which category fits best each site ? I've been browsing a little on Alexa Directory checking the ranks, and my site could be on TOP10 for several categories, but it's not there
Now I don't think so, because at the bottom of each page of Alexa directory there is this phrase: Directory listings are provided by Open Directory and enhanced by Alexa.
Alexa is one of the easiest scores to manipulate... so i would be surprised if google places a ton of weight on the score or links from them.
I've written a false claim above... Correct (from Alexa FAQ): The directory on Alexa.com is a copy of the Open Directory Project, located at www.dmoz.org... Alexa has added the ability to sort categories by Popularity and Avg. Review Rating, and you can access all of Alexa's helpful site information just by clicking on the title of any site.
I had a site in the top 100k for several months, and it maintained it's PR3 so I'd personally assume NO one is not dependent upon the other. However, I'd also assume that a high Alexa rating and a high PR would likely go hand in hand in many cases.
