Age of the domain matters to the Google SERPs output, I know that big G values the age of the domain.

PR is just a factor, build back links and don't worry too much about it, it will come by itself if you have good content overall.

    Regards

Age matters, but that doesn't mean you should just wait it out. Build links responsibly (not by exchanging links with any site that will have you).

In my opinion, adding more content & getting more backlinks to your site will take time anyway. All 3 are important & will start improving your ranking.

I totally got it. I thought it was cute. I guess I should have said something. It's hard for some people to tell whether you're joking or not when it's just text. Unless you add a ;)

PR means very little now, yet people still take it very seriously. Even if a PR3 site is high up on the SERPs for competitive keywords, if the toolbar doesn't show PR5, nobody will buy links... (speaking from direct experience here...)

Age is an important factor. If you build too many backlinks into a new domain, it just might get sandboxed. But if you are getting all the right links (read links from most of the important hub sites and some authorities for your topics), you are safe. For that to happen you must have something really good, that everybody just want to link to voluntarily, linkbait anyone (BTW, i read somewhere that randfish from seomoz offers a linkbait building service for $20K).

I spent way too much time in the very competitive pharma industry (viagra and stuff), and still search for old domains, that are not yet expired, for my purposes.

If you really want to see the importance of age, google up viagra or cialis and what you will see is some real sophisticated spam, almost all of them piggybacking on old domains, or subdomains on some old sites.

And yes, there ways to get a old domain and link it fast to get top rankings. For medium competitive phrases even a six month to one year old domain can be brought up in the SERP's by fast link building, but it is costly and risky if not done well.

Speaking of human age, you would be surprised to hear how young most of the DP forums members are. (sorry for being offtopic but I couldn't resist :D )

Age matters and is more important than PageRank.

    Both!

It's just like being a member on this forum. The longer you've been around and the more "rep" you have, the more love you get ...accept in the website world, inbound links is the equivelant to getting "rep".

I'm new with low "rep" so I can't even post links (no "love") ...otherwise I would point you to the "rep" FAQ ;-)

Relevant backlinks affect your position in the serps, BECAUSE they also influence trustrank.
Age + relevant backlinks > trustrank > position in serps for keywords on page (well: roughly).

I never believe that domain age has effect but my i saw the site with only 20 links and almost all keywords are at first. no SEO so far. The only reason i can understand is domain age.
