Does adding new pages nut no new links adversely affect rankings?

I recently read that if you add new pages to your website but not add new inbound links, your overall ranking will decrease in Google (and any other engine that considers IBL important).

If this is the case, I wonder how many new links (of a certain value) you need for every new page.

Is this true - what have others found?

Yeah. Google hates new content. /sarcasm

It is totally not true at all. You dont need x number of links / new page of content. That's silly.

I think you have been misinformed. There is a lot of very bad information out there.

It is generally thought that the search engines like large sites so adding new pages should be a good thing.

Now inbound links are not to a site but to individual web pages so I can't see any relationship between the number of inbound links and the ranking of a site.

The other thing to remember is that Google and the other SEs don't return sites in their SERPs. They return pages. So this entire issue of the ranking of your site doesn't make sense.
