Does adding a forum to your webpage increase your backlinks?

I have noticed some horrible sites that have a "decent" forum that have 2-3k+ backlinks. Does adding a forum to your webpage increase your backlinks?

You can't make an analogy like that simply because of the fact that they have a crappy forum...

If they have active members, the members could have bought in backlinks..

You never know if they ran an SEO Campaign and got a ton of backlinks either...

 

I was referring to the site itself, when I say horrible. The forum is decent, maybe 1-3 posts in each section of the forum. But it seems 9/10 times from what I have seen, the sites with forums have higher amounts of backlinks.

 

Ya sometimes. It does increase if you have a good forum with a decent PR.

 

Adding a forum may get you backlinks, if it's a quality forum, people will link to it naturally. Kinda like a huge link bait

What is more important, is that you can build a cool community around your site using a forum. This could improve traffic and sales.
