Does a site's URL have to be spelled out to count in search engine rankings?

I have a puzzling question about URL's and search engine rankings. It's been said that if your site is linked from other sites, that it will raise your search engine rankings.

The thing is, I know people who have linked my site to theirs but if you type in their domain name and mine next to each other in google search, my site doesn't come up, because my URL is not spelled out exactly on their link page. Instead, they put the name of my site without the URL and just create a link to my site with those words.

So, I'm wondering, does that count? I mean if someone puts a link to your site but doesn't spell out your site URL, does that still raise your site ranking?

I don't get why Google doesn't index your site on their page if it's not spelled out by exact URL, even if it is linked from it? One guy put a banner on his page and linked my site to it, but when I type my site and his together in google, nothing comes up.

    Does anyone know why?

Does a site's URL have to be spelled out to count?

You want a text link that describe sites keywords in it. Some people like using url but you get the best effect by using text link with site name or description.

You actually probably want your anchor text to be something other than just your URL. In the best case, the anchor text includes keywords you're trying to rank highly for.

If i understand your question, you are confused with HTML and the content of the actual site. You should not care if the search engine finds the link on the content of the site. He should find the link in the HTML. After that he connects the link with the words that were written in the text of the link.
But you shouldnt worry about the connection you are talking about

Hi folks, thanks but I'm not sure you understand my question. What I mean is, say I type my site URL in google search box. The sites that come up are not all the sites that have linked to my home page. The reason is because some sites link to mine without spelling out my URL, though the URL exists within the link itself. So google doesn't find it by a mere URL search.

So my question is, does that influence the site ranking?

I hope it's clearer this time.

    Thanks.

    My dear Friend

No i am thinking that either you are mad or I am mad. Any one of us are mad that's sure ?

Ok whatever but what i have understand from your queestion is that you want to know why the website which linked you does not use your URL instead of that they use some " text" right ?

and you want to know that this "text" with URL inside the text (anchor text ) have any importance in google.

So my friend the anchor text ( url inside the text) is the most important thing is google the person who have linked you with your site url is not aware of seo foreg. http://www.domain.com/ you should changed it to keyword which you want to target for your website.

Cool Mate and Enjoy your day

This does not affect you in any negative way.

If you want to rank for keywords, have them link to your site with those keywords as the anchor tags.
