Remember that you wont get a penalty for link farms. Google only gives penalties for stuff you put on your website, everyone could place your link on a link farm. The worst thing that could happen is that the link won't gain anything for your website.
no.. plenty of meaningful information... but link juice won't be great if that is what you are asking... it works for the first few links.. then the more you add.. the less reward it is getting
this is absolutely true, i totally agree with you on this. having a link in a forum with tons of link will not give weight on your link with that certain forum
Link farm is the one where a page in full of links. Forums are never considered as link farms as they are used for discussion and for gaining knowledge. They are best and well reputed in search engines. Just the one like DP is also full of links but it is not considered as link farm.

I don't think that forums are to be considered as link farms.Talking about DP itself various links are put but still its the fastest way to get our site indexed and not regarded as spam too.
Link farm is a different concept but forum is a place where you discuss related to category topics . forum provide to add link in signature for your personnel site where user get more information about you not for your link strategy.
one of them is a free ads posting website where I just visited some days ago n found a lot of spamming out there. they will not effect ur website but dont give u links juice
