does a PR9 link guarantee you excellent rankings?

    Hey guys,

if you obtain a PR9 link to your site from a governmental institution website, does it guarantee you 1st page of Google? My site is on page 3 right now.

    What's your thoughts?

P.S.: the link will be on the PR9 homepage, not links page. The niche is related to my site (Tourism), the number of links on the homepage of that site is less than 40.

No, it does not guarantee you anything - if the niche isn't related, it's possible it might not help at all. The strength of a link depends on a number of factors besides niche - like the PR of the actual page your link is going on (a PR9 site with a link on a PR1 page is a PR1 link). The number of links on the page (the more links, the less PR to each link). If the link is a footer link, google may discount or not allow the page to pass PR. If it is a forum link, it won't help as much as an in-content link on a regular page.

On top of that, you have the actual keyword. If it is a highly competitive keyword, it certainly isn't likely to put your site on the first page.

Google is very suspect of high PR 9 sites selling links. If you look at the page and it has a bunch of footer links or links that don't look natural, you run the risk of getting a link on a site that google has blocked from passing PR. The site will still show its PR, it just doesn't flow out to external links. Take a look at the current links and see what their PR is. While not an absolute indicator of PR passing, those other links should all have good PR (assuming the links have been there for a few months). Even a link on a PR10 CNN isn't going to guarantee you a page 1 or two ranking - it all depends on the competitiveness of the keyword.

Absolutely no! You should not rely no PR solely, it leads you astray

Nope. You could have a PR9 site in a niche that simply does not generate incoming traffic and interest. Forget PR, ignore it, leave it alone. Concentrate on visitors V's conversions.

It´s no guarantee. Google is usually suspicious when a PR9 .gov site links to an individual site (no company or something of that order). It is a great boost for your PR though.

Well it won't increase your ranking in search engine much but getting a link from such high PR can surely boost up your chance of getting high PR in next PR update.

you could see a bump in your PR value after the update, but I am skeptical on the ranking improvement. I also guess you are not buying this .edu pr9 link !

Depends on both the keyword and the niche.

    Seems like PR is worthless:(

    Btw...

I notice some sites such as forum that visit very often by robot get excellent ranking...sometimes the keywords itself may not relevance to the forum but the ranking is excellent:D

It doesn't guarantee you anything -- but then again, if it really is a great site, it's always a good idea to get your link on there.

Someone else mentioned CNN -- hypothetically, if your site hits a CNN article, the value isn't in the link from CNN (although I'm sure that's great). The value is in the numerous (if it were social bookmarking, potentially hundreds or thousands) of follow-up links you'll get, all with a diverse range of keywords from a diverse range of sites.

The PR that we see, yep. Actual PR is very different from the toolbar PR (surely, the fact that it's an integer between 1-10 gives that away).

it is true that it can not be guaranteed that you will get no1 page in google. it will depend on many things. if you get a link from a .gov site and also on the home page then it is surely giving you good value. but it should non commercial KP. And they will also not give you link with the commercial KP.

But you will get good value.

Nope, doesn't guarantee a thing. It's already been stated but I will say it again anyways. You should NOT rely on PR alone.

It could greatly increase the authority of your site in Google's eyes, but there is no guarantee thing in SEO. You still have to start from the bascis of linkbuilding, both in quality and quantity.

PR is only 1 factor. More than 100 factors that can make no. 1 on Google.

a PR9 link won't guarantee u anything. It's not about PR anymore, lte alone to say just one link gonna make you 1st page of Google.Almost impossible!
