Does a link to your home page affect Search engine position for other pages?

Hi

Just wondering if I have all incomming links from article sites etc to my homepage will this affect the ranking for pages within the site?

Should I just have every link to the homepage or have links to various pages within the site?

Uhm, good question. Don't know the answer either because i don't know how it effects intern linking.
