This is a question in my mind for a long time already .
If this is true ,why never shown when updating the BL ?

It is counted as a link but may not show up in google as they don't show most of your links.

Use it mainly for anchor text links and getting new sites indexed.

I've never noticed it in Google's backlinks and the forum pages aren't cached by Google so I have my doubts about whether Google counts it as a backlink but I haven't done extensive research. The only thing I've noticed is that MSN picks up on the link you have as your homepage and it uses the anchor text like, "Visit BrianR2's homepage."
Have you seen it in Google's backlinks ever? I'm curious to know if anyone has found it listed in their Google backlinks.

I think it counts as a link, but carries very little to no weight in ranking at all. It definitely does help get a new site indexed, and you can get some good benefit from actual traffic from people clicking on your signature links in forums. As far as helping a site's ranking, don't count on anything.

I did an experiment on sitepoint back when they allowed search engines and guests to see sig links. I linked to a new site only in my sig and after 2 months it gained a PR4.

I had about 1500 posts at that time.

Depending on the forum, I certainly get direct traffic from signatures (SitePoint is an example). Yeah - it is difficult to determine the effect of signatures links to established sites, but I am pretty sure they can have a nice effect on new sites and getting the bots into the new content.

The effect in msn is huge, I've tested it with a few pages getting backlinks exclusively from forum signatures.

I get a decent amount of traffic from my signatures on forums. I'm a lot more active on other forums and the traffic is fairly substantial. It all depends on how involved you are in the community, as far as how often people click on your sig links. Just an observation.

I think it will affects you Search Engine PR because you will get some good clicks from the signature. In return, the more hits to your site, the more PR you may get (IMHO) :)

You can get #1 for fairly competitive keywords on MSN but Google has a more complicated ranking system, all of the links count and have weight for keywords and some don't Some forums have threads that have higher PageRank on Google those will help you out more than PR0 threads I don't check PRs before I post. Forum link do contribute to your PR and SERPs position and but don't count on getting keywords like sex or shopping with keywords forum sigs. :D
