I get a lot more visitors from my facebook Fan page mass mailings than from my newsletter, even thou I send the same content to both. But I wouldn't treat this as a rule.

So my bottom line: facebook fan page helps!
The contest so that people share the invite is a great idea! (thanks patrickcurl)

Our blog has a fan page. The blog is only 2.5 weeks old, and the fanpage about 2 weeks old. According to Google Analytics, our fanpage has sent just over 400 visitors (7% of our traffic - we're not indexed by Google yet). The facebook page currently has just over 500 fans. Hope this helps.

It's an interesting tool to utilise, and if you get people talking then you can start to see real benefit however it's not going to be of any instantaneous SEO value.

There's no real 'permanent' solution. For my blog - I know if I write a blog post, I can expect an increase of 2-300 hits per post that I write from twitter, google, facebook, and more. If I don't write the traffic dies down.. I mean sure I have an average and usually am getting about 4-500 hits per day, but a lot of the growth depends on being frequent with updates. The key to marketing is you will ALWAYS need to be sending status updates, blog posts, news, events, more... W/ social media there is so much out there to distract people's attention, you need to find ways to 'stand out' from the crowds that are all saying 'look at me', differentiate yourself, and you will have success.

I love it! I've seen such an increase in traffic from people who didn't normally visit my blog since I really promoted my FB page.

As everyone keeps saying, its good for updating your existing base of subscribed users, but not that great for getting more traffic unless you have one of those pages that is getting constant people 'liking' it.

When I first started out with Facebook groups, I generated ZERO profit. I think that it'll definitely take you some practice just like any other type of business would. I'll also have to agree with you on the "catching up on facebook things", because it's definitely true. that's why you'll have to target the younger market (teenagers) because they makeup most of the facebook users.

There's a dude on BHW who made himself a challenge, to see how much his fanpage could make him in a week. This is like right now...
It went viral yesterday and increased from 500k members to 2.1+ million (hit this 12hours ago so probably even bigger).

Anyways, he said he's posted one or two links and already made $2.5k from it. Let's see how far he can milk it eh?

Gollums his name, Facebooks his game.

    Regards,

    Phil

Now 568 fans. First post was on 12th April, so now 16 days old :)

The site was started on 9th April, and has had 20,000+ PVs and 7,000UVs. I'm pretty proud of it, we've been doing lots of promotion. Its not yet indexed by Google :(
