Does a domain get disable right away after it expires ?

Don't get me wrong, I don't plan to not renew my domains which I have. I am just curious as to whether a domain name gets disabled right away when the domain name expires until it is renewed or recovered ?

 

I think so it does or it may depend on what company you have the domain with
