Does a Bounce count as a Visit?

I ran an ad on the Chicagotribune website. They said my banner was clicked 3000 times but I only show 500 visits from this domain both in google analytics and my personal tracking software. So does a bounce count as a visit or if some one immediately leave are they not counted where visits are concerned? Thanks.

A bounce means your website visitors came and left without visiting other pages or left within a specified time. So yes, it's a visit...just not a pleasent one. :D

Maybe they bounced on a ad which would not be all bad. ;)

Yes, bounce traffic should be counted as visit.

Its possible some visitor click in your banner but close page before your counter code loaded but 3000 and 500 are so different. I think its not possible.

Agree :D And the lower the bounce rate, the better for a site.

This might be serious than bounce, like everyone said, its true that bounce is counted as visits. But I see bigger problem there, if your publisher is telling you such a huge no, then there is certainly problem. Here are few things that you can try and see if you find a pattern !
    1. Check in google analytics how geographically these set of visitors(use advance segmentation) are spread
    2. Check how these visitors are spread in network / browsers / os combination, if you find some sort of trend, you should go back and tell your publisher that there is some problem !

Let everyone know how you deal with the problem so the ecosystem can be benefited.

Exactly, even a bounce can be a good visit if the visitor has followed a link that you want them to follow.

It counts, but try not reaching high % of bounce rate. How? Just write quality and relevant to your keywords content :).

IF nay visitor stay long time on the site will get less bounce rate.. and its good if the site having more traffic and getting less bounce rate say less than 20%...

Of course, bounce is also counted as a visit but even then, there is a very vast difference between your own count and that given by your publisher...Something amiss here....either there has been fraudulent clicks at your publisher's end just to generate quick clicks or your publisher is plain lying and cooking up the stats...
