I don't think so , but I would like to hear what you guys have to say. I wonder this because I've seen some sites with huge page ranks , no backlinks and looks like no traffic. I'm just curious and needed to get this question over with.

Yes High PR doesn't mean lots of traffic at all.

How could they get high pagerank without backlinks?

Think about it. High PR could mean high ranking in Search Results (which it doesn't really, anymore theoretically) but if only 10 people are searching for your terms a day, then you'll get 10 visitors, MAYBE...

Firstly, you need to consider what you mean by 'High Page rank' and by 'Lots of traffic'.

If PR6 is High for you, then this is not right. I've seen lots of PR 6 sites which have nothing on them. Whereas other PR5 could be doing far better in terms of traffic and users. However, I've rarely seen any site with PR8 or above which has very low traffic.

IMO, PR7 + sites are serious about their websites and they reach this stage after continuos effort and hard work, so yes, they get 'lots of traffic'.

Well, not necessary high page rank would give you high level of traffic. It just mean that you have a lot of good link backs to your site. However, as for traffic, it would be determined by how attractive and relevant your links are to the target audience.

It is possible be a PR0 to have more traffic than a PR5 site. It really all depends on traffic. If the contents are viral, you will get recursively traffic.

In the long run, sites with high traffic do have high PR, and the reverse is applicable too..
At the beginning, may be not like Eddy said, simply because a site which has just started to be taken notice of by people is unlikely to figure very highly in G at that particular time...however as it starts to gain traffic/PR, its PR/traffic tends to rise.

The above seems to be about right, but would also like to say that one of our sites is PR 3 site that has very very high traffic, which has never been promoted but it just seems to bring in large volumes of traffic 365/24/7

In some ways, if you got high PR, search engine will place you in better positions of search results than whose PR are lower than you.

I think some website doesnt even have high PR but get 1000 visitors/day...
so..i guess..it doesnt matter if you have high PR or not..sometimes only depends on your site content...right?

PR is simply a measure of backlinks. You could have a blank page with a PR of 6 but what SERPS would you be top of?

Higher PageRank does not necessarily mean higher website ranking and more traffic. PR is only one of the many factors that Google considers when determining ranking. PageRank alone does not boost your site to the top of the search engines.

well considering that the PR 10's get a ton of traffic, i believe that if you get a high pagerank = 10 (good luck getting a 10)
you will get a frickin load of traffic. because you had to have so many links on so many sites, you are bound to get million of visitors from the links alone

high pr is one component of high rankings, if a site has high pr, it is an indication that it will do better in rankings, but this is not necessarily so.

    "guitarbinge"

You are replying to a 2 years old thread ? :)

Anyway, we need to build back links in order to increase traffic, PR can't bring traffic.

No, it doesn't mean a damn thing.

Just look at all the sites out there that have high ranking.

That right there will tell you

Besides, search engine traffic isn't that good. Most if not practically all of them are tire kickers, curiosity seekers, users who I like to call "jumpers," because they aimlessly jump from site to site out of sheer boredom.

    On and on....
